Let your dreams come true ! Sep 01, 2010
By Areef "College Students: DO THIS! GET HIRED!" has changed my life because it got me hired, first as a summer intern and just recently full time. This book contains methods and tips that allowed me to get multiple interviews and finally my dream job. There is lot of books out there but this is an easy read and is like a math equation; you follow it and you will get results. To put it simply, the advice in this book was the key to my success and I want to share my success story with everybody so you pick up the book and have the success I did.
College was not easy for me. I worked 60 hours a week and went to school full time. I drove 104 miles every day 5 days a week just to full fill my dream..to be an Aerospace Engineer. I graduated from with a Aerospace Engineering but had a low GPA; below a 2.5/4.0. Well before I graduated, I started applying for jobs, applied for 342 jobs but no calls from anybody. I went to three career fairs but got no interviews. What a shock!! I was shattered and felt like I would never get a job because no one would ever give me a chance. Then I had the chance to meet the author of this book Mark Lyden, and went to one of his campus presentations. It was nothing less than life altering! So I rushed out and got a copy of the book.
After reading the book I started applying everything I could from it; from tailoring my resume and how to present myself at the career fair, to interviews and the best way to answer interview questions. AMAZINGLY, in the very next Career Fair I attended I got 12 interviews! That led to me getting a paid internship and finally, a full time job offer.
In this economy, I am sure there are thousands of college students looking for summer internships, co-ops and full time jobs, but can't get one. Do yourself a favor, go out now and buy the book. If the information in this book can help someone like me, with a GPA below 2.5, find their dream job imagine what it will do for you.

Great student gift idea! Excellent material & to the point Nov 11, 2009
By Pavan Battar Mr. Lyden's book covers an amazingly broad range of subject matter - including practical tips on resume building (minus all the cliches we've all heard hundreds of times), getting interviews, doing well at interviews, networking, and more.
At first, I was slightly worried at the fact that it was only 90 pages, but after reading it, I can see why. Unlike many, many books these days, this one (thankfully) lacked all the fluff and filler publishers use as padding. The fact that he's a recruiter at Boeing and not just a book writer definitely shows through.
After you read the book, you may feel like a lot of the things are common sense - but that has more to do with how well everything is explained.
If anyone is in the market for gifts for college students, you can't go wrong here... it's probably not a book that most college students would impulse buy with a bookstore gift card, but once it's in their hand, they'll definitely read it.
If any college event organizers are scouting for guest speakers, definitely consider Mr. Lyden. He was, without a doubt, the most informative speaker at a recent talent scout panel we had on campus (at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - DAB).

Excellent Advice Aug 02, 2010
By BN As a hiring manager at at Fortune 500 company, I found College Students Do This! Get Hired! to be a refreshing, no-nonsense introduction to what students really need to know to put their best foot forward in the hiring process. It presents clear, concise advice, and includes real-world examples to illustrate and reinforce the message. Unfortunately, many excellent candidates are left behind in the selection process because they presented a poor first impression or were lost in the flood of resumes we receive for each job opening. Trying to decipher an incoherent resume or interview response takes effort, and one can never be sure the translation is accurate. The resume-reading, interviewing, and salary-discussing phases of the hiring process are often not very enjoyable on either side of the table, but if students would follow the simple instructions laid out in this book, not only would they improve their chances of getting noticed, but they would do us all a favor.

By Alicia S. Mark's book is an easy and enjoyable read, providing useful and practical information and smart tips on how to succeed at the job search. He relates to readers by speaking to them directly, giving great examples and telling them exactly what they need to do in order to be successful. Mark provides insider tips that job seekers need to know, from inside the trenches of college recruiting. I think every college student needs to read this book.

Just the Facts Jul 14, 2009
By Matthew Feldman Being a recent college graduate, I found "College Students: DO THIS! GET HIRED!" to be a great tool for students at any point in their college career (Undergraduate, Graduate or PhD) looking for an internship or full time employment. From my personal experience, most college students do not have the time to read lengthy books on how to land a job. This book is a quick read and an excellent reference due to Mark's straight-forward, right to the facts writing style. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a job, whether you are entry level or higher!
