Collision KSA: A Series of 24 Collisions Based on True Accounts

Heartbreaking and wise, Collision KSA by Yasser Alireza is meditative fiction that is full of complexities and human connections. Each of twenty-four essays deals with a social issue of the Middle East and is introduced by an incident involving an automobile. The theme: Life is unpredictable in cars—and out. As the author sends readers careening through the streets of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, unique perspectives on social life evolve into worldly insights and opinions on how the Mideast is exploited by the global media and modern literature. With story titles such as “Fifth Collision: How We Heal,” “Tenth Collision: Whose Path Should I Follow?” and “Twenty-third Collision: Fallen Bougainvillea,” he addresses social issues, the minutiae of existence, and the explosive nature of life on the fringe. With a fierce off-balance humor and poetic sensibility, these stories are masterfully penned and show a rare grace in an often-ugly world.

5Essays for change  Jul 21, 2009
By BevE "BevE"
Collision KSA is a look into another country's difficulties with the automobile, much like the US has struggled over the years with the safety, dangers and efficiency of one of our most prized possessions. Yasser Alirezas uses his book as a vehicle to describe the problem Saudi Arabia has with it's laws and the enforcement of those laws by using well crafted essays and black and white illustrations to educate the reader of how dangerous driving has actually become in the Middle East. If I may quote Yasser:

"Change is hope and hope drives us forward"

May we all hope for change. Yasser has made an excellent beginning. You may want to consider adding Collision KSA to your TBR stack, it is well worth the read.

5MUST READ - Refreshingly Insightful  Sep 14, 2009

Despite the sometimes heart wrenching material, I couldn't put Collisions KSA down!! Unlike most books on Saudi Arabia, it doesn't aim to portray its inhabitants as bad or good people. It highlight a prime problem in a unique and refreshing manner ~ while withholding judgment and criticism!

True to its name, an automobile accident is creatively woven into every essay. Whether you're familiar with KSA or not, this book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Hopefully, it will also cause a much needed change in the society!
