This was a very interesting story, juxtaposing the modern life of Tess with the diary entries of Olivia. I loved Olivia's fresh voice and humor, along with her wide-eyed innocence as she discovered the provocative, sexy world of BDSM and erotic control. This was a very sexy book with two intertwining stories that worked very well together. As always with Ms. Thompson, I highly recommend it!

I am a fan of Claire Thompson and have been reading her novels for some years. Confessions of a Submissive is one of her better works, in the softer/more romantic category. However, I'm only giving it 3 stars here because this book is really a minor rewrite one of her older works, The Secret Diary. The only things that have been changed, as far as I can tell, are the main female characters' names (the grandmother was Elizabeth, now she's Olivia, and the granddaughter was Nicole, now she's Tess), and a few fairly minor descriptive details. This is not mentioned here on Amazon or on the author's site. So if you own the older book already, you may want to consider if you want to get this one too. The author has done this before (re-visited and re-written an older work) but the revised work has always mentioned that it is a revision of an older work....but there must have been some oversight with this one.
So...the book rates 5 stars but the misleading (intentionally or not) listing gets 1.

Confessions of a Submissive by Claire Thompson is an extraordinary work; a well developed page-turner with a first-rate plot.
There are, truly, two main stories flowing throughout this book and I loved how Ms. Thompson developed these parallel stories and interwove them through the times and lives of the characters. The reader becomes so enmeshed into the lives of these characters that there is a smooth and consistent flow throughout the entire work.
The imagery of each and every scene was vivid and intense. I was in the room with these characters at all times. I called it a page-turner earlier, and I'm not exaggerating because I truly didn't want to stop reading it. I was compelled on my journey with these characters to learn what would happen next - isn't that the hallmark of a great book!
The sex scenes in this book fall into the `holy cow' category. They are brilliantly written with stunning clarity. There is no question that the energy flowing from the characters can be felt by the reader.
My hat's off to you, Ms. Thompson, for creating such irresistible characters! I think everyone should run out and get this book - how could you possibly be disappointed. I honestly can't say enough good things about it.
