Confessions of the South Side Rapist: 25 Years of Terror in the Gateway City

Confessions of the South Side Rapist is a true crime tale about the life, the crimes, and the motivations behind the crimes of Dennis Rabbitt, one of the most prolific rapists in American history. It relies on hundreds of pages of police reports and exhaustive interviews, especially from Dennis Rabbitt, to tell his story. The book gives detailed and sometimes grisly accounts of the crimes of the South Side Rapist but also gives the motivations and explanations behind these crimes from the perspective of Rabbitt, law enforcement, the forensic psychologist, and the author.

4Confessions of the South Side Rapist: 25 years of Terror in the Gateway  Jul 27, 2006
I thought this was a good solid true crime book. The story was told by the serial rapist committing the crimes. He told the author in a series of interviews all about his crimes including his motivations. I thought that the author was the right person to write this book for two reasons. 1] He did excellent extensive research to come up with a good book. 2] Mike Murphy knew the rapist for several years well before these sex crimes took place. I recommend this book for anybody who likes to read about true crime and serial rape.

5A Compelling Ride Down The Rabbitt Hole  Sep 02, 2005
This is a most compelling read! Murphy explores the twisted mind of sociopath Dennis Rabbitt from a firsthand perspective. Rare indeed. The haunting story of an egomaniac driven by his inner demon, the Succubus, intrigues and draws the reader in, guided by the gifted talents of Murphy. I've read the story twice and each time I found something new to ponder. A bonus is to peer inside the mind of the detectives as they pursue a relentless, and unbelievably lucky, criminal. Mike Murphy paints an amazing picture of a very dark subject indeed. Buy this book!

5Lock your Doors and Windows!!!  Aug 03, 2005
Lock your doors and windows. We're not even safe in our own homes anymore. Scary but true. Mike Murphy's first class narrative details the meticulous modus-operandi of a notorious serial rapist. By allowing him to speak in own words, Murphy cleverly exposes the manipulations, and pathetic excuses that this seedy sociopath uses to try to justify his deviant behavior. Equally fascinating is the subtext of how political connections, and the actions of a severely dysfunctional family both baffled and tied the hands of law enforcement, enabling Rabbitt to escape justice for nearly thirty years. Readers will devour this true account quickly, but it's grisly contents will remain with them for a very long time.
This book serves as a cautionary tale for women everywhere to be forever vigilant in maintaining complete awareness of their surroundings at all times, both in and out of their homes.

5Confessions...A Great Read!!  Jul 01, 2005
This book is a page turner - I read it in the course of one long evening! I live in Minneapolis and was familiar with Serial Rapist Dennis Rabbitt from A&E Investigative Report documentaries. Murphys book is not the usual fare of true crime procedurals that waste space on the literary racks. He gets into this criminals mind using Rabbitts' own words taken from hours of prison interviews that he conducted at the state pen.
Brilliantly he allows the monster to reveal his 'true face'.
Kudoes to author Michael Murphy -when will his next book be out!?
