Corpses and Canyons

In the second "Kip Yardley" mystery (The first was 'Bodies and Beaches') Kip finds himself in the Canyon areas near Flagstaff, Arizona, trying to dig up clues to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a highway construction worker.

Although Flagstaff Police want him to return to LA, and sinister forces send him a deadly message by running him off of the road and leaving him to die in a burning Jeep, Kip is stubborn enough (or dumb enough) to follow his instincts and keep digging for clues.

But when beautiful Valerie Chiccaro, the daughter of the Highway Contractor, turns up missing, things start getting hot in a hurry.  Kip soon finds that Arizona women are hot to handle and hard to please.

An Indian peace pipe, a topography map, and five grand in cash are some of the clues that Kip uncovers.  In the end he faces death in the desert before he can bring the killers to justice.  But his enemies underestimate him.  Kip has a few tricks of his own up his sleeve.

If you like good old fashioned P.I. work and are tired of filthy language, explicit sex scenes and psycho killers, you'll like "Corpses and Canyons".

4Smooth reading experience  Mar 05, 2012
By Winston Crutchfield "MindSpike"
Don Yarber creates a likable protagonist in detective Kip Yardley. This is not a studious intellectual cozy or hard boiled thriller; Yardley's adventures belong on Saturday night television, populated by cliffhanger commercial breaks, groans of hard luck empathy, and a general feeling of feel-good entertainment that makes you forget to watch for clues and just enjoy the ride. The clues are there - Yarber engages in no twist-ending theatrics or efforts to be more clever than the reader - I just didn't feel much like beating Kip the solution. He's working so doggone hard to get there! At this point, I've read one other Kip Yardley mystery, Death and Deep Waters, and enjoyed it immensely as well. I'm looking forward to more my Yarber as the mysteries roll out!

5A Winner  Feb 09, 2011

"Corpses and Canyons" is a fast-paced detective story that kept this reader turning the pages when he should have been asleep. Don Yarber's protagonist, Private Detective Kip Yardley, has a penchant for getting into trouble. This makes for a story laced with action and suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

5I Like Kip!  Jun 07, 2008
By J. H. Kinsey
I thoroughly ejoyed this book. It was a fast read. I was able to finish it in one sitting. I am searching the used book stores for the first Kip Yardley book and I look forward to the release of the 3rd story in this series. Great job Mr. Yarber! I'm a fan.

4The Late Richard S. Prather said this about my work:  Jan 26, 2010
By Don Yarber "Author of "Bodies and Beaches" and "Corpses and Canyons""
About Bodies and Beaches : "I liked your lead character. I think in Kip Yardley you have created a fictional P.I. strong enough, real enough, likeable enough to carry a series (if you ever felt like doing several more "Kip Yardley" books). As Maren Elwood wrote half a century or more ago CHARACTERS MAKE YOUR STORY (in a book with that title). So that's a big plus.

"Bottom line: "Bodies and Beaches" is a good job with a likeable lead and a lot of interesting action I enjoyed reading, and you write very well indeed. Verdict: Well done!"

"Corpses and Canyons" is the second in the Kip Yardley Mystery series, featuring "Kip Yardley". Copies of Mr. Prather's letter available on request.

5Corpses and Canyons  Oct 06, 2009
By George Myers "Larry Myers"
Don Yarber has created a character in Kip Yardley that I want more of. Both novels, including "Bodies and Beaches", grabbed my attention and kept it until I finished them. (I really enjoyed revisiting places I have been to in So. Cal. and Ariz.) Don, if you read this and I'm sure you will, get Kip on another case soon Dude! Good writing makes for great reading. Thanks again.

Larry Myers, Bellflower, Ca.
