Creative Differences: A Mystery-by-Design Novel

Creative Differences is the story of Dewey Taylor, founder of Hollywood's hottest animated movie shop. As Dewey is putting the wraps on another successful movie, he is unceremoniously fired by the parent company for a practical joke he inserted into a frame of the movie. A recovering alcoholic, Dewey drowns his sorrows that night and wakes to being arrested for the murder of the man who fired him. Posting bail is no trouble for someone worth $100 million, but as Dewey tries to prove his innocence, trouble follows him in the form of murder, lies, and a beautiful reporter. Dewey fights many forces to save his reputation . . . and his own life.

Fun! There's a dark, fast-paced thriller in here, with believably bad guys and harrowing situations, lightened with humor and blasts of "I-didn't-know-that" animation industry trivia. I liked all the details tossed in about the popular cartoon that is the creation of the book's protagonist. Like another character, we come to care about it, too, and wish it were really a show on Saturday morning. And who doesn't love a flawed hero who stumbles into trouble, is no better prepared to find his way out than any average guy, but manages to . . . well, it is a suspense story. Enjoy it.
