Cuba, A Cursed Paradise Oct 30, 2011
By James Hensley Cuba, A Cursed Paradise, is undoubtedly one of the most interesting books I have ever read. It follows an upper class Cuban family from the Great Depression to the Castro era. I found it easy to read and thoroughly enjoyed the character development as well as the descriptions of the settings.
Having never been to the island but fascinated with its history since it played an important part of my formulative years I have always wanted to know how the Cubans felt and lived during this turbulent time. I believe the author provided the reader with an "inside" view of Cuban life without the hysterical political overtones. I could relate to all of the characters, their challenges, triumphs, joys and sadness. I would strongly urge anyone interested in a well told story not to hesitate in acquiring this book. I found it spell binding and could hardly put it down.

A Cursed Paradise, Yes, but a Blessed Story Nov 16, 2011
By Steve Pollack From the moment I saw the vibrant photo on the front cover that captures the historical tone, I just sensed that this was a worthwhile, fascinating story which takes the reader way back in time. There is a lot of misinformation about this period in Cuban history, and some mystery as well. The author writes about it in great detail as someone who was there, who was deeply involved and really knew about so many of the goings-on, especially at the upper levels of society. The chapters are brief which I find makes them easier to read. The story seems to have been lovingly crafted with great passion and care for a homeland lost.

Language problems Jun 17, 2009
By B. R. Horton This is a story, obviously written by a Cuban, of the goings on in Cuban society in the years leading up to the Castro revolution. I should guess there is an admixture of autobiographical material. The tale, if indeed true, would be of some interest. Unfortunately the author's command of English is not good and the book is therefore rather difficult to read, which is a pity, as obviously a great deal of effort has been put into the work.
Great passion for Cuba!! Nov 21, 2011
By Sonya Chi Cuba: A Cursed Paradise, is one of the most profounding books I have ever read. The story is about a high society Cuban family which goes through a lot of emotional turmoil from the end of the roaring '20s to the Cuban Revolution. I love reading about Cuba and it's history through fictional characters. It takes me back to an era where I can imagine an island that was so free and intense at the same time. This book was so vivid in its description of a long, gone era that I managed to read it in 36 hours!! Hail to the author for a great read!
