Essential reading if you have an elderly parent or if you plan to ever get old! Feb 14, 2010
By Helen This is a wonderful, easy to read, extremely informative book about caring for an elderly parent, or any loved one, whose increasing age makes it necessary to have assistance in order to live relatively independently. It is also relevant to one's own growing old and the decisions one may make in planning for old age. The author relates her own experience with her father who, after being widowed, needed to have an increasing amount of assistance in order to continue to live in his home. How to provide that help with creative planning, regard for his wishes, respect for his proud nature behind the face of age and disability, and good humor is the crux of the book. Although none of us wants to face these issues, we all do at some point. This book provides so many practical suggestions and gives support to the reader at the same time. I really recommend it as a guidebook to keep and reference in years to come.

Dad doesn't need to be alone! Feb 03, 2010
By Demanding Reader After finishing this book I am absolutely floored by the amount of information and detail the author has included. There were many 'aha' and 'I wouldn't have thought of that' moments - she must have done loads of research. What a great tool, and I love the way the author wove her dad's story around the data, personalizing it so well. It works for those caring for aging family members and helps all of us to plan for our own declining years. Highly recommended!
