Professor (Emeritus) of Religion at Columbia College, Columbia, SC. United Methodist Minister. Married to Susan C. Parker for 48 years. Two children: Martha Susanne (deceased) and Harris Hartwell III. Daughter-in-law, Shelly, and two grandchildren--Madison and "Wells." The author is a native of Florence, South Carolina, and holds degrees from Wofford College,the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Emory University, and Columbia University in New York. He has taught in the Religion Department of Columbia College in Columbia, SC, for some 50 years.
