An Inspiring Story of Transcendent and Unsanitized Faith Aug 09, 2010
By Lynne Marie Dancing in the Dog House gives an achingly honest voice to the marginalized members of the human family, especially those that suffer with mental illness. Alisa offers insight into the fears and vulnerability that are a piece of their daily struggle. An unwavering commitment to cling to what is beautiful as she battles a ruthless enemy is awe inspiring. Her prayer, "Jesus let me love better...Remind me always that I am connected to others...Let me remember that I hold hands with them...Give us the ability to love each other well." is a healing salve. Through an example of transcendent and unsanitized faith she offers her life story through prose and illustration as evidence that even in our darkest hours we are connected to a God that we can "hang our hope on."

INSPIRED PAINTINGS AND WORDS FOR A DIFFICULT LIFE HISTORY Jul 22, 2010
By ayshe The autobiography is intense and introspective, but the paintings are from another realm.... they could be made into a separate art book. I highly recommend getting the color version which is large enough to show the beauty of the art work. The text is thoughtful and insightful and well worth the read. Even if you don't believe in a personal God, this is still uplifting and thought provoking.Dancing in the Doghouse: Sharing God's Presence in Everyday Places

I was privileged to read this book in one of its early drafts. The writing is crisp and fresh; the writer is honest and transparent; and the absolutely delightful illustrations tie everything together and bring the book alive. As a counselor, I will certainly recommend Dancing in the Doghouse to clients as an encouragement to them in their own journeys.Dancing in the Doghouse: Sharing God's Presence in Everyday Places
Journeying on a Spiritual River Apr 29, 2011

I found Dancing in the Doghouse to be the captivating diary of a girl tottering from a tremulous insecurity to a transcendent hope. As a child Alisa struggled to navigate from a home where she was loved into a world in which she felt like she was a "dork"--a sensitive soul who felt, like so many today, that she was the odd one who never fit in. But her soul saw beauty, and color, and it spilled over onto canvas, and despite her strange inability to sleep and her mother's ongoing illness, her art refined what would be the battle lines of her suffering and her enthralling dialogue with God. Her canvas became the pole star of the hope that sustained her. Dancing in the Doghouse in many ways reflects the dilemna of a modern world that digs well in dry places, seeks love in brothels, and endorses values that do not fill our hearts. On her honest and authentic journey down an underground spiritual river, leaving the distracting billboards of our cities behind, Alisa discovers her "coat of many colors" and finds her heart transformed in God: a rich sharing!
