Polly does it again! Apr 09, 2008
By Lyneve Cannon
"Lyneve"
Patricia Sharpe's third Polly Pelman Mystery - "Deadly Echoes" is riveting! We're re-introduced to Polly, her family and friends. There's also a pleasant surprise. Patricia deftly adds a tantalizing new dimension to Polly's character. Polly is more than just a psychic sleuth!
"Deadly Echoes" takes us into village life in South Wales where Polly's quiet days are shattered and her equilibrium challenged by a series of local fires. She is unwillingly drawn into a labyrinth of deception, intrigue and, ultimately, murder. But Polly's terrific talents once again triumph over adversity. She is ably assisted by her police friend Ted Brown, sculptor James, her sister's daughter Candy and others. There is relief all round when the mystery is solved.
I really enjoyed Polly's latest adventure. It is a tribute to Patricia Sharpe's relaxed writing style that by the end of the story I felt as if Polly was my friend. I've read all three "Deadlys". They're stand alone stories and Patricia does a good job in keeping us on track with what's happened in the past.
It's been fun getting to know Polly and I like the direction her life is taking. Hopefully this will be explored further - Patricia Sharpe cleverly left enough loose ends with this book to allow her to easily pick up where she left off with Polly's life. I look forward to mystery No.4.
