A helpful contribution to a difficult situation Jan 14, 2008 For young children whose parents are divorcing, it's a difficult and frightening time. In their previous book, "Dear Sammie," the authors introduce the grandmother as a supportive, loving, and constant voice to the daughter of divorcing parents; and here they introduce the grandfather as a reassuring and loving presence to a young boy whose family is breaking up. These books do many things: they remind us of the importance of grandparents as an emotional support to their grandchildren; they give us words to use when we know we should say something but aren't sure what that might be; and most imporantly, they give a firm and comforting message to kids who often suffer the most and are give the least when their parents decide to go their separate ways. I am often asked for somthing families can read during times of crisis and I'm happy to have these to recommend.
