Good beginning to a new series (I hope)! Jul 20, 2010

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this book is self-published. If it's not, the author needs to find a new editor/publisher. The grammatical errors mentioned in earlier reviews do indeed taint the reader's first impressions of the story. However, they were the worst in first third of the book, much less as time went on. I enjoy tremendously stories about "place" - in other words, the setting has to be one of the characters. In Murder on Coffin Island, Folly indeed is one of the characters. That's a big plus in my book. The human characters are nicely fleshed out - we get a bit of back story on most of the main characters. Their dialogue is believable. I enjoyed the mystery and how it was developed. Had me guessing until the last bit of the book. I hope Michelle, the author, continues to write. Take heart from Kathryn R. Wall, the author of the Bay Tanner series. She too started out self-published and now has over a dozen books under her belt and a major publisher.

Fun holiday and vacation reading Jun 19, 2007
By Mystery Reader This was just a very very fun book to read. It moves fast has a good sense of local culture surrounding the Charleston, SC beach scene and it is an intrigueing mystery besides. The author develops the characters with a flair particularly the heroin who is lively, vivacious and smart. All you could want in a whodunit. I recommend this book highly for those who want to just relax and enjoy a good story. Can't wait for the next one!

Saw this book at the local grocery store (Piggly Wiggly) at Folly Beach. Got on Wifi and down loaded to my Kindle. Wow what a treat! I sat back in my beach chair, dug my toes in the sand and enjoyed getting to know the characters. It is definitly a page turner right up to the end. I look forward to more books to come from the author about Kel and the gang!

By Martha Coffin Island is a wonderful, easy read...it keeps you on the edge of your seat and you don't want to put it down. It is full of Folly Island history and you fall into becoming a part of the family of characters. Only bad thing was it ended too soon and as yet Ms. Nutwell has not released the next in her series. I can see this making a great TV series.. sorta like 'Murder She Wrote' with a fiesty female sleuth on the Carolina coast. I highly recommend this book. You won't be sorry, I am looking forward to the second book.
A good story but hard to "reed". Jun 16, 2010
By Gotta Read I guess I liked the book, but there were so many grammatical errors in the book that I thought maybe this was self published. For example, when the book is talking about a car accident, it mentions the "break" lines. OUCH. After the third or fourth instance of this, I actually got out of bed to get a pencil so I could make changes in the book it bothered me so much. Where was the proof reading in this? Oh, I know, spell check. "Break" is a word, but the correct word is "brake" in this instance.
I am an avid reader of "fun reads", mostly paperbacks, and I am seeing more and more of these errors. It makes me sad that no one takes the time to do things correctly and take pride in their work anymore.
