Desert Dons: The Truth behind the Young Soldiers Who Turned Iraq from Chaos to Cartel

Desert Dons by author Beau LeJeune is a no-holds-barred, bare-knuckled, and brutally honest account of one U.S. soldier’s journey into the dark and dangerous Iraqi black market, where he was one of a handful of men who controlled the drugs, sex, and vices so prevalent on U.S. military bases. Filled with compelling and complex characters, author LeJeune chronicles his own personal journey, but more importantly documents the world within a world that acted as distraction, boredom breaker, and for some life-destroying diversion form the harsh realties of a foreign war. Written with frankness and told from the perspective of one who has lived events, Desert Dons is must reading for anyone searching for the truth about what really happens inside the protected walls of U.S. military bases in Iraq. Beau LeJeune has written a book that is truly thought provoking and thoroughly entertaining.

1Should have been written with crayons  Dec 20, 2009

An absolute horrible read! I wondered if the author finished the 4th grade and if the publisher was a relative. It did not flow, did not have a point and seemed to be nothing more than a disgruntled Soldier trying to ruin the reputation of a military unit sent to Iraq. There was no plot what so ever and it was full of obvious exaggerations. I want my 16 dollars back!!! I rated it one star only because Amazon would not let me rate it with NO stars.

5I thought it was an eye-opener to what really goes on !  Dec 10, 2011
By John M. Jamison
It was hard to believe but I have a few guys that are good friends and they said after they read it. That they believe it was true and the things they see but can not talk about until they are out of the service. So until you walk in a soldiers shoes don't be so quick to call this guy a liar!

the book was interesting....i wouldnt go as far as to say that it is the truth. more like a fabricated story by a boy who has a good imagination and a desire to be talked about. i am married to one of the guys mentioned in the book, and didnt think that it was in good taste for the aurthor to add his own opinions of people (oh, i mean the characters). but he got what he wanted...people bought the book, including me. i wanted to see the hype. my husband wanted to see what was written about him. readers beware....when you read this "story" that the majority of it is not based on facts. it is based on what the aurthor wanted people to believe. he did make it a lot more interesting with all the added hoopla!

4Diabetics Beware  Dec 11, 2009
By Loving This
This Book is so Delicious, it has to be Fattening. Not exactly a "No holds barred, adrenalin rush" but a very good read all the same. What compelled me to buy the book was people attacking the author, not the content. If only 50% of this book was truth, you would still need to present a better rebuttal than "persistent grammatical errors" and "incorrect military acronyms." Within the first five sentences you can deduce the author is not book smart, nor an english major....
