Good read! Mar 15, 2007
By Publius A well-crafted page turner. Weinstein knows the diamond business and is clever weaving his knowledge into the fabric of the story in a manner that will be familiar to Dorothy Sayers' fans. By the end of the story, one will certainly know enough about the diamond business to be thankful for not being in it.
The complexity of that business underlays the intricacies of the plot which follows the path of diamonds from Africa through the major processing centers of Europe and America. This world is made up of a special good old boy network in which being rich is not enough unless the rich can be seen by their respective governments as being a vital national asset deserving of discretion and protection.
In this world of privilege, things should run smoothly and they do until one brainy sociopath among them decides the time is right to exact revenge for the wrongs committed by a large consortium on his family. His plan involves murder, blackmail, the support of terrorists and depends on outwitting Mossad and the CIA to carry it through.
This is a first novel, and I look forward to others that follow.
