Treating children with respect Mar 09, 2009 The teacher remains in charge of the framework of the student-teacher relationship, but respects the student by offering choices at every stage. Roxanne Claassen, the main author, offers a 'flowchart' of increasingly serious but non-punitive interventions, including the 'four options', a family conference, and ultimately the school authority structure. The method has been tested for nine years in her high school and two in Ron Claassen's university. The exposition is clear, possible problems are tackled, and the method should be usable in any school - or indeed, could be adapted to other organizations.

Restorative justice and Conflict Resolution Applied in the Classroom Feb 25, 2009 This book by Ron & Roxanne Claassen is one you should not miss if you are in the field of education. Both writers have extensive experience in the restorative justice field. I have worked closely with Ron Claassen since the early '90s. Ron is the co-founder and director of the Center for Peacemaking and Conflict Studies at Fresno Pacific University~always a hub for those seeking to learn more about the theory and practice of restorative justice. Roxanne has an extensive background as a teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels. Together they bring the principles of restorative justice into the classroom setting which is new and exciting. There is much to learn in this book. I recommend it highly.
