Do-Tell: Hear the Corn Grow

A true story beginning with a small boy "growing up" with his family in the bone-hard depression days of the 1930s. From a shambled hilltop home, above Wild Horse Creek, and meager farm existence , from simple pleasures to boyish heartbreaks, to warm family relationships, to a young man in World War 2 service in the U.S. Merchant Marine, and finally to the steps of Corpus Christi Church for the beginning of a new chapter of life.

5A real slice of rural life during the depression  Nov 14, 2006
By Scott Ruby
This is a very good book for anyone who would like to know what it was like to grow up poor on a small farm in the depression era. The story is told in a humorous and touching way, full of wonderful imagery! Ray is my uncle, and I may be somewhat biased, but this story would be enjoyed by anyone with a curiosity about the simpler days of old. Most of us could not even imagine growing up in a small cabin with no electricity or running water, very little money and 7 children! The story starts with early childhood memories, and goes right up into World War II were Ray and 4 of his brothers were in the active military at the same time! This book is a real slice of Americana.
