Doctor in your Pocket: A Handbook of the Human Body

This book will be particularly helpful for patients in this era of managed medical care who may experience difficulty communicating with and understanding their doctors in the brief time allotted for their consultations. In addition to the layperson, it also provides very helpful information to those working in allied medical fields, such as paramedics, nursing personnel and medical technicians. "Doctor In Your Pocket" discusses in separate chapters each System of the body, giving a description of the Anatomy [how is it built?], Physiology and Biochemistry [how does it work?] and for each System a discussion of the most common diseases and disorders, in medical terminology, called Pathology. The reader will learn when to call the doctor, what to say in correct medical terms ["doctor speak"] and will, thereby, share significantly in their own care.

5Put a Doctor In Your Pocket  Aug 21, 2009
By Earl J. Mason
This is quite an intersting "pocket" book. It is concise, accurate and very well organized by the author. He has indexed most of the information similar to an anatomy text. This should have distinct advantages to the reader who is directed to the anatomic area and then given important medical information about disorders occuring there. Also, therre are very good definitions of medical terms which enhances undestanding the various conditions. The combination of simplicity, accuracy and completeness make it an outstanding source of medical information for the average person. I am also a teacher as Clinical Professor of Pathology, Indiana U. Medical School, NW.
