Gone but Not Forgotten Dec 10, 2007 What an awesome look at history, and a great way to keep these Forgotten Buildings alive for todays generation and future generations.

Old Chicago Dec 09, 2007 Thoughtful and sensitive collection of pictures of bygone days. Excellent historic value. Nostalgia provoking if you are old enough !!

Disapointing reading. Nov 06, 2007 This book seemed to be written without the benefit of an editor. Some of the pictures were from the old days and some were from current time. Some of the old synagogues have been torn down but for some reason that information was not included in the book. I was very disappointed in the writing quality of this book.

Trudy loves it Jun 09, 2006 What a treasure!!!
Our Synagogues and community bulidings are not "lost"--indeed, with this book, we will be enriched with the knowledge & history of those before us. The photographs & stories weave a beautiful tale of Jewish Life in Chicago.

Fantastic and Timely May 06, 2006 This is the history of my great-grandparent's generation and how they built the houses of worship in and around Chicago.
It is the memories of my grandparent's generation growing up in these neighborhoods.
These are the places my parents remember fondly over holiday dinner as the places they left but never forgot.
Mr. Packer has collected the history of these neighborhoods and the photographs of the most cherished buildings that link people to their faith and their community. As these buildings disappear; whether from neglect, fire, or condo conversion, their images and stories have been preserved in this book for my generation and many to come.
Wonderful!
