Dottie, It's Time for School!!!

Dottie, It's Time for School!!! by Maxine Quinton tells the delightful tale of a little tomboy named Dottie who has to become a schoolgirl. Dottie is beyond a handful. Just ask anyone, especially her mother. Dottie has a lot of fun, but there comes a time when she must trade in her caterpillars and hi-jinks for a higher calling. Dottie is sure she'll hate school as much as she hates bath time, but things might turn out better than Dottie anticipates.

4Totally Charming!  Sep 11, 2008
By Barry F. Clark
The book captures the spirit of a special age with a perfect compliment of illustrations and text that will transport readers, young & old, to a time when puppy dogs chased newspaper boys down the street on their bikes and mothers made pies in the oven. We look forward to reading more from this author -- especially a sequel that continues the story of Dottie as she deals with the timeless challenges of growing up.

5Reading to children has never been more fun!  Sep 15, 2008
By Maralyn Quinton "Proud Sister"
It's sad, but one of the things we seem to lose as adults is the pleasure of children's books. I was fortunate to learn the enjoyment of books at a very young age, and have always tried to pass that love along to others. Growing up, I was several years older than my siblings, so I first learned the joy of reading children's books aloud to them... then, to my own children... and after that, to my grandchildren. Many times in choosing the books I bought for these youngsters, I chuckled to myself wondering who I was really buying them for. Just such a book is "Dottie, It's Time for School"! For the very young, it will put into words they can understand, the fears, the excitement they are feeling at the prospect of starting school. Those a little older will certainly identify with Dottie's situation, and even if you're a LOT older, Dottie will bring back thoughts and memories you'll think were long forgotten. Dottie's experience is our experience, and her colorful family and friends could easily be yours. Do yourself a favor - buy this book and you can pretend it's for your kids!!

5My Grandchildren will love it.  Sep 15, 2008
By Jane A. Ballah Mackie
You can be sure that my grandchildren will be getting this book for Christmas this year. As I read the book, I kept thinking, "Erykah and Emilie are going to love this." I think we all know a Dottie and, there is a bit of Dottie in all of us. We can all relate to her fears and her innocent curiosity. I loved the book. Will we get more of Dottie in the future? I see a series in this... or a children's movie.

4The wisdom of kids  Sep 24, 2008
By lover of literature
"Dottie" is SO enchanting, even elevating -- the illustrations capture an innocence and evoke memories of life as it never was, but as it needs to be remembered. The spunky heroine embodies the gender-free confidence too many little girls regrettably lose along the way to adulthood. Reading "Dottie" to my grandson reminded me of the questionable logic adults used when I was a child. Like most kids, I knew better but grownups had the power.... My grandson howled every time I enacted Dottie's protests.

5Brings back memories  Sep 18, 2008
By Hubert McTarnish
With the hubbub of everyday life, it's nice to remind ourselves of the innocence that came with childhood now and then. 'Dottie, it's time for school', is a wonderful recollection of childhood events, perspectives, ideas, and the view of this huge wide world that is new to children every day. To think we were all that age! When reading this, at first I chuckled at the scenarios and the cleverness of the writing; yet, then my memory was tickled and I remembered going to school at that age, the confusion, the wonder, and the sheer strangeness of it all that accompanied me and my cohorts. It was a great trip down memory lane and I found myself smiling on more than one occasion.

This is a beautifully written book that children will laugh at, have fun listening to and trying to read along with. Parents may end up liking this book even more and hoping their kids will pick it off the bookshelf for them to read to them at night.
