Eastridge Academy: School For Adventurers

Eastridge Academy is where the realm’s finest train to become adventurers. The resourceful become Mages, learning combat casting and rune magic. The cunning and sneaky become Thieves, learning pick-pocketing and stealth. The studious and compassionate can be found in the Cleric major, and the strongest and bravest students attempt to earn a place in the brutal Warrior major. Being a first-year student at Eastridge is particularly difficult. As a new student, Princess Averi has dangerous combat classes to pass, the nobility to please, and on top of all that, her roommate is the menacing Wisteria Ling, the best combat caster of all the first-year students. Luckily, the two soon befriend Rai Ravin, a Thief major who might just be charming enough to talk his way out of anything. Along with Fell, a farm-boy attempting the Warrior major, these four will learn how to fight, how to use magic, and how to survive being an adventurer...

5If you're looking for a good book...  Apr 25, 2009
If you're looking for a good book, you're looking in the right place! "Eastridge Academy: School For Adventurers" is above and beyond the usual fantasy book. I'm a picky reader and can predict what the characters are going to do, but I couldn't predict a thing in this book, and didn't want to put it down. The characters are realistic, and you can easily relate with each one. With a thrilling, beautifully written ending, this book will have you on the edge of your seat, begging for more! I'm dying to read the sequel!

5Like nothing literature has witnessed since Lewis, Or Tolkien  Feb 06, 2009
I found this book to be one of the most engaging and interesting stories I've ever read. True, it is a light read, but even so, its highly capable of competing with some of the most well established works out there. A fantastic story of the beginning for young adventurers, letting you know, their story wasn't always chocolates and roses.

5Wonderful Relaxing Read  Feb 04, 2009
Despite my worries of a slow start, I found myself readily engaged by the characters and charmed by moments that actually made me laugh out loud. This isn't going to win literary awards like War and Peace, but it was a really wonderful way to spend a few hours enjoying the richness of a very thoughtful background fantasy world with fun, engaging characters dealing with fascinating challenges as they go through their coming-of-age.

(P.S. It's an INFINITELY more well-written book that Twilight by Stephanie Meyer!)

5The Characters are Great!  Feb 03, 2009
I fell in love with the characters. Each main character has some endearing qualities. The characters are presented early on in the book and I quickly picked my favorite. But you'll quickly find that they're not cookie cutter characters and they evolve and surprise you throughout the book.

These four students who come from very different backgrounds all find themselves at the School for Adventurers under different circumstances. Then you're expecting them to become best friends who stick together through everything....Fortunately this book is not that predictable or honey dipped. Each student lives out their own experiences, triumphs, and disappointments. Their lives intersect throughout the book, as the multiple storylines progress. Sometimes subtle details will resurface later on in the book so I did find myself getting lost a few times and having to go back to prior scenes.

The School for Adventurers is a unique story idea. The school has four majors: Warrior, Mage (magic), Cleric (medicine), and Thief (yes, you read that correctly). The four students are Averi (a rebellious princess who is a thief major), Wisteria Ling (lived in a monastery with warriors and was forced to attend the school), Rai (the charming cleric), and Fell (perhaps the character you want to root for the most, he comes from poverty and has entered the warrior major with no experience so he has to work twice as hard in his warrior classes while being bullied by the strongest warrior and has to work at the stables to pay to stay at the school). As I mentioned, they're not inseparable best friends, they each have their own relationships with each other. Some of the funniest scenes are when they're at odds with each other.

I consider myself a picky reader. I often start books and don't finish them because I lose interest. I couldn't put this book down though. I highly recommend it!
