Helpful to Hispanic Students May 08, 2010
By George F. Laudadio I think this book will help Spanish Speaking learners of English. I came across it recently. I am an ESL Teacher and a student of languages. Although I know that it is best to work as much as possible in the language you are learning, at times it is good to have your hand held in your own language as you work out a point of grammar.
The book is written in Spanish for those Spanish speakers who know some English and who want to improve further. It presents keys "claves" to a list of specific grammar and pronunciation difficulties that Spanish speakers have with English rules and sounds.
As far as pronunciation of English is concerned, the special sounds of English are described in terms of the placement of the mouth, tongue and lips as well as by sample words and recordings. A special feature of the book is its library of 140 sound files that illustrate and provide practice and feedback in hearing and pronouncing English. As a language maven I also appreciated the fact that the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) is used in the book
The salience of the Spanish speaking population of the US has become obvious. What is less obvious is that a considerable part of the group is made up of readers, readers increasingly interested in improving their English.
Un libro sumamente valioso Mar 23, 2009
By Eduarda Allen El Sr. Gerace ha creado un libro sumamente valioso y práctico para los hispanos que quieren mejorar su manera de hablar Inglés.
El genio de la metodología de su libro y que se desfrutará tan ambundantemente el lector-estudiante consiste en la presentación experta de tres elementos irremplazables, señaladamente:
1) la sencilla y detallada explicación de la gramática;
2) una abundancia de ejemplos ilustrativos de la gramática presentada; y 3) el sonido actual y la auténtica pronunciación inglesa de todos
los ejemplos!
Así, el lector-estudiante tiene delante de él o de ella lo que más necesita para progresar y sobresalir.
Eduarda Justiniano
