Evergreen Is Moving

The assassination of the President casts Vice President Lori White into the Oval Office and ends with the capture of a Hamas leader in Washington DC. Did Hamas kill the President? Can a woman take charge in a national crisis? Can anyone bring peace to the Middle East? These are questions facing President Lori White as she takes the reader into the complex world of Islam, into the palaces and chambers of government throughout the Middle East as she seeks to end the war in Iraq and bring peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Some compare her style to the boldness of Winston Churchill when Lori appoints the first black man in history to serve as Vice President, and she brings a divided Congress together. She opens up a dialog with Iran, and stands toe-to-toe with the male dominated world of Islam speaking to them in their language, and understanding their history and culture.

5A Vision of Hope for the Middle East  Jul 18, 2008
By Jack Byrd
The President is assassinated by terrorists, and a young, untested female Vice-President is thrust into the world spotlight as the first woman President of the United States. She deftly handles critical challenges--both foreign and domestic--with intelligence, honesty, integrity, and heart. She enters the complex and often dangerous worlds of Islam and the Middle East as she meets with the leaders of the countries and the various factions that control that volatile region in a quest for peaceful and satisfying solutions to very real problems.

At first reading, EVERGREEN IS MOVING appears to be a political thriller about a woman President who skillfully executes her office and offers intelligent solutions to the challenges she faces. Further reading shows that it's more a novel about a President who executes that high office admirably who also happens to be a woman. That's an important distinction, I think. The book could easily have centered around the notion that women are as capable of running the country and making critical decisions as are men and left off there. But Mr. Gabbert doesn't stop with this nod to the equality of women. Through President Lori White he proposes real solutions for many of the serious problems plaguing the Middle East and the threats those problems pose not only to our country but to the entire world. And he does so in an insightful, engaging, believable, and entertaining way.

I'm not usually a fan of books about the political process, but EVERGREEN IS MOVING is much, much more than that. It's not only a blueprint for how the political process should work, it's a vision of hope for solutions to the problems in the Middle East. Would the proposed ideas work in a real world setting? I don't know, but Mr. Gabbert offers intriguing possibilities that should be of interest to every American, especially those in politics, the military, and the news media.

I believe EVERGREEN IS MOVING is the kind of book Oprah Winfrey would embrace, because it's not only a book about peaceful solutions in the Middle East couched in a thrilling novel of intrigue and political sophistry, it's a ringing endorsement of what women of intelligence, vision, and strength can accomplish if given the opportunity. In President Lori White, Bob Gabbert has created an inspirational and empowering role model for women and girls of all ages.

5this sparked my interest  Mar 06, 2011

"EVERGREEN IS MOVING" would not have been a book I would have selected from a book shelf to take with me on a cruise (my favorite place to read). My interest in politics is very low and books are an escape from the realities of life. In the case of this book it sparked my interest in those very things that are happening so fast around us. I liked the fact that early on the title of the book was made clear and each time the phrase "Evergreen is Moving: appeared it warmed my heart. The book kept me interested from first page to the last. After I read the last page I still wanted to know, now what is going to happen next. In my estimation a really good book leaves you liking the characters and hoping to hear more about them. I plan to share this book with the members of my book club and look forward to the day we meet and discuss "Evergreen is Moving".

Having recently bought and read evergreen is moving i must commend the author for a very enjoyable read.At first reading i thought it was going to be a take on the tv programme 24,but it turned out to be so much more a novel written by an author who seems to have a lot of knowledge about the middle east and their underlying problems and maybe there could be a solution out there somewhere.Icouldnt put the book down and when i got to the end i wanted more, so if theres a sequal im ready. If you want a good holiday read this is the one for you. 5Intriguing, Contemporary, Predictive  Nov 30, 2009
By Roy W. Martin
This book brings a fresh and insightful look (in the form of a novel) at what could be solutions to current impasse political problems in the middle east. It also teases the readers with some future possibilities in our own political arena. The book keeps moving (like Evergreen in the title) tugging the reader along - it makes it difficult to put the book down. It is enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. I highly recommend this book to you.

5A New Perspective for the Middle East  Oct 13, 2008
By C. Michael Gabbert
I usually go for the action--suspense--thriller-type book. "Evergreen is Moving" begins with the assassination of the newly elected President, and a young woman from a northwestern state is sworn in as our new President. I'm thinking, "Oh, boy, here we go!"

Although a novel, "Evergreen" then becomes a thoughtful, insightful look at the problems of the Middle East and a fresh look at what the solutions might be. Lori White, the new President, is no Sarah Palin. Although a charismatic female, elected as Vice President from a northwestern state she is definitely a Democrat. She brings new perspectives to U. S. policy rather than continually reimplementing the policies inherited from years of failed attempts at peace for the region from both sides of the political aisle.

I am also a fan of "The West Wing" television show of a few years back. The book presents an inside look at the President and her staff, and we are able to see these relationships develop.

I found "Evergreen is Moving" to be a very readable, entertaining and informative look at the Middle East. I think you will, too.
