Interesting and different approach Jan 03, 2009
By Laurence Moroney I met Mimi in Melbourne in 2007 when she was working on this book. I had been doing a little consulting work for some firms that were working on media and internet sites for the Olympics, and she told me about this book.
It got my interest immediately! You see, it's pretty easy to find a book that will tell you how to do HTML, AJAX, DHTML, Flash, Silverlight, ASP.NET or any other technology that can be used to build a web platform for a scalable site.
But what about all of the business negotiation that needs to go on for content? What about the way you organize the content for modern web users to access it? What about how you track and monitor what is being used so it can be monetized?
Mimi takes a journalistic/academic approach, starting with a big step back to explore what is involved in building a site that uses new media tenchologies, and how they've evolved. It's a great refresher if you've been in the business for a while, and a great introduction if you are just entering it. You won't learn *how* to build sites from a technical perspective, but you will learn what is involved in the building of sites. Couple this book with books on your favorite technology and you'll be set :)

A New Media Centre Dec 12, 2008
By G. A. Foster This book is one outcome of an academic study into the design of a comprehansive Media Centre for the Beijing Olympics, which would incorporate facilities for journalists, competitors and the general public to make information available in timely and flexible ways.
The author, Mimi Chau, is an experienced print and broadcast journalist, with extensive experience in South-East Asian newspapers.
The book provides an overview of the existing and emerging media technologies, many of which have become vital in such global initiatives as the Olympics which attract world-wide attention, and identifies the issues that need to be taken into account in the design of new media systems.
