5Entertaining book -- very different concept  Aug 15, 2008
By J. Beals
I purchased this book because I enjoy short stories and it also had a logo that intrigued me -- Read-A-Movie. I have read many screenplays, which are not usually easy reads. These stories are screenplays written by award winning screenwriters, which were not listed on the Amazon page. Because I was familiar with one of the screenwriters, this was a nice surprise. Another really cool feature of the book that Jack Young (the creator of the Read-A-Movie idea) added was to put in a page of the "backstory" which is what the screenwriter was thinking when they wrote the screenplay and who they envisioned in the roles. That was my favorite part of the book because I could envision what the writer was envisioning. I think the authors are important to know: Sheila Brothers and Roxanne Marchand, J.L. Chaka, Karen Hicks (I love her work and this story), and Jackie L. Young.

5Lots of fun to read  Aug 04, 2008

On the back cover, there is an quote that says "What a great idea for a book" -- and it is. I liked the unique story lines -- it IS too bad that they aren't films, because they would be really good. I have read screenplays before and they are really hard to get through because of the way the descriptions are written. This book has descriptive and narrative copy that was originally directions for the screenplay, but it has been reformatted into the story and it helps you visualize the setting and the characters. It is way easier and WAY more fun to read than a screenplay! I like short stories too -- I think it plays into both of my favorites. Movies and short stories. I can't wait for the next ones. In the back of the book it says there are 10 more coming. The publisher calls it Read-A-Movie -- and it really was a different experience. I liked it a lot.
