A Taste of Small Town Americana at its Finest! Jun 24, 2008
By Tara Bricco Family and Other Oddities
This book began as the author's desire to leave her family's history for her children and her childrens' children. As those who helped this gifted storyteller to edit her writings began to read it they encouraged her to think bigger about the possibilities of her story and I am so glad they did.
Rich with history this is the story of a small farming community just off the Mississippi river in Tennessee; the compiled memories of a young girl growing up in the '50s. You meet the town, the townsfolk, the way of life from the early days of Elaine Weir Watkins' family til today.
As a 'city girl' who married a farmer her stories of the escapades of a young, untrained farm wife will tickle your ribs and warm your heart. I laughed and cried with Elaine in this book. I do hope that she writes another book soon.
