Forget the Yellow Brick Road

In Forget the Yellow Brick Road, Liz Green pulls from the story of The Wizard of Oz and the spirited Dorothy on her trek to Oz to remind us that the road to success can take us in many unique and exciting directions. Even more compelling is the message that there is no single path, despite what women are often taught, and those who take risks and acknowledge each step forward as a success will benefit from the journey. Written in a tone both playful and serious, women will resonate with the messages and find purpose and reason in the choices Dorothy makes throughout her career. From understanding success to finding the courage to accept change, moving forward as an individual and sometimes eschewing the traditional, she reminds us at every turn that this journey of discovery is more than a metaphor for living; it is the focal point of a fulfilling, joyful, and purposeful life.

5From the author's mouth  Sep 22, 2009
By Liz Green
I know, I know - of course I'm going to rate my own book 5 stars! If you have ever thought about and talked about something that you have wanted to do for a very long time, then dedicated a whole heap of time to doing it...I am sure you will agree with me that, when it finally is done the excitement and pride one feels is out of this world! I own and operate a multi-award winning career development and training company. Our focus is working with individuals, teams, and businesses to build performanace, improve productivity, and achieve success. So this book has been a fabulous method to channel everything I want to share with everyone.

Why the connection to the Wizard of Oz? Well to me it made absolute sense...think about it...Dorothy was told to stick to the path and that when she got to Oz he would be able to send her home to Kansas. But all he turned out to be was a short bald fraud who had no idea what he was talking about. It was only when she forged her own path that Dorothy found her way home to Kansas. Just as we are so often told to follow the straight and narrow path to achieve success, but then so many of us get there and it's not what we expected or that we don't even feel successful at all.

Forget the Yellow Brick Road is a career fairy tale with a moral in every chapter and a lesson and message for everyone that reads it.

I found this book to be thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable! Having NEVER worked in an office or corporate enviroment it gave me a really good insight as to how the corporate world works not to mention how many hours goes into running large companies and the many different types of people it takes to make the corporate world such a success!! i really felt this book had something for everyone and is thought provoking for evaluating ones career and then thinking towards the future realising that it's okay to welcome a change and take a risk and a challenge which may create a journey which is successful! Very entertaining, and for me a real page turner!! Would highly reccommend reading!

5Thought-Provoking Read  Sep 29, 2011

What an amazing ability Liz Green has to take everyday corporate life and turn it into an enjoyable read!

I found myself resonating with Dorothy throughout the book - from my own high expectations to concerning myself with the expectations of others.

It is a relief that someone has said that it is ok for you to alter the journey along the way, stop and have a family and enjoy both worlds. The definition of success definitely changes with years that have passed and experience.

A must read for anyone contemplating their career.

5An insightful yet entertaining read!  Nov 01, 2009

Having just embarked on my own career this book really gave me an insight into the path that is so often mapped out for you. I could relate to Dorothy and enjoyed reading about her story and the friends she made along the way. It is funny, well-written and an enjoyable read.

Whatever stage of your career you are in, this book really makes you question what it is you are embarking on, and I think it would be valuable to anyone who picks it up.

A recommended and entertaining read for all!
