Forgotten: Xanatos I

Years after being thrown from Grace, Xanatos returns to the floating holy city on a whim. That fateful decision begins a series of events that will change the world as he knows it. Joined by his beautiful and mysterious companion Lex, and guided by the wisdom of the demon called Legion, who shares his consciousness, Xanatos finds himself drawn into the battle of good vs. evil despite his refusal to take sides. After years of killing for his own survival, Xanatos now finds himself working to save others, and faced with a destiny he never could have imagined.

3Wonderful Story Concpet, Not Your Average Vampire Novel  Nov 30, 2008
By M. Johnson
This book begins with a wonderful concept. To put it in my own words what would happen if you merged Tyler Durden (Fight Club) with Blade (you know the vampire slayer). Well you would get Xanatos, the not quite human, not quite vampire/demon, and quite sane protagonist. Xanatos has merged with Legion a demon. How the merge happened is left a mystery till about an 8th of the way into the book which keeps you turning pages since Xanatos was allegedly supposed to be a holy Paladin. Add the nice literary twist of having Legion force his comments into the mind of Xanatos makes for some great schizophrenic moments.

To be completely honest I love the story concept. I also think D.M. Arney presents his story in a masterful way. I took the bait every time D.M. Arney threw out another tease into why Xanatos is the way he is.

However I am not a big fan of the Fantasy/Vampire Horror Genre. I really thought I wouldn't mind it because the story concept was so fantastic. But alas the sexual undertones, the graphic slayings and the explicit language was to much from me to continue past chapter 12 (about half way). Thought I am sure a fan of this genre would find it average or mile. This is not meant to be a slam on the book in fact since putting the book down I've often wondered about what will become of Xanatos, why he turned into demon instead of a holy knight and even if he can redeem his sou, if he even had a soul to begin with.

What I disliked most about the book is the genre itself. So please take this in mind when choosing to give my review any merit. I am not a fan of the Fantasy/Vampire Horror Genre BUT IF YOU ARE, you should read this book it's much better then the played out vampire stories, i.e. Blade, Underworld, etc.
