5Teaching Children Timeless Principles  Jan 04, 2010
By Josephine Gross, Ph.D.
This new episode of Lydia the Ladybug is bound to become another favorite in every school and children's library.

The allegory of turning animals into Shakespearian characters is a great way to teach children timeless principles and universal truths, as expressed by the greatest literary of all times.

Full of wit and fantasy, the story will captivate children of any age. The rhymes will also help them remember some of the lines of the great master.

A nice change from the usual children's book topics such as "Who Spilled the Milk" and "There Is a Spider in My Room," this book comes with a biography and glossary at the end, which is very instructive as well as child-friendly.

From Paris to London, Lydia takes the reader on a mind-expanding journey that enriches the imagination in many ways. An episode not to miss ... for older episodes, see the LydiatheLadybug web site.

5What A Clever and Imaginative Story!  Dec 11, 2009
By A. Butterfly
The author takes us to a magical place inhabited by a remarkable ladybug, a most amazing frog, and a bumbling talent scout who sees an opportunity to make much money off these wonders of nature. We then find ourselves in London at the opening night of Fred and Lydia's debut in "Romeo and Juliet." As the events of the plot unfolded, I was enraptured by its humor, the stylish verse, and the imaginative story.

This story is a great way to give your child a favorable impression of Shakespeare. I only wish I would have had Frederick T. Frog as an English teacher. He would have even made the Bard happy with his witty remarks, dynamic personality and his flair for poetry.

There's an excellent biography of Shakespeare written especially for young readers as an added feature of the book and a compact dictionary is also included defining over a hundred words and their meanings used in the story. Making it convenient for a child to look up a new word while reading, it can enrich his vocabulary too.

Unique among chldren's books with it's originality and charm, I recommend it as a book that you will definitely want to add to your child's or grandchild's bookshelf as a treasured childhood keepsake.

5A Magical Story That will Delight and Enlight Your Child  Jan 21, 2010
By Kay Stevens "elementary school teacher"
"Fred and Lydia Take London By Storm" is a five star children's book. Having taught in an elementary school for over ten years, I have read many children's stories. A few children's stories stand out to me and this is one of them. When I read this story to my students, they found it humorous and enchanting. I found the story not only highly engaging but educational for my students too. The vocabulary used throughout the book is excellent, and there is a little mini dictionary in the back that explains any words a child may not know the meaning of. There is also a biography of Shakespeare in the back of the book that young people will find interesting and very comprehensible. The story itself is funny and wonderfully written. The characters are magical and evoke a sense of wonder for the power of the imagination. A real gem!

Lovely! What a great way to introduce young readers to Shakespeare and the world of the theater. Love the fanciful illustrations! It is great to have the vocab list in the back of the book so that kids can learn and grow their vocabulary as as they read. I can't wait to share this book with my sisters and their friends! Strongly recommend this book for readers of all ages!
