4Free to Speak  Jul 09, 2008
Covers the personal experience of the author (a speech pathologist) in overcoming SD. Refers to the work of Morton Cooper. Provides some "hope" that SD can be overcome without botox or radical surgery, and therefore well worth the read.

2Free to Speak: Overcoming Spasmodic Dysphonia  Jan 07, 2008
I found the content to be mostly informative, but was slightly disappointed with the book. Based on the title, I was expecting more comprehensive rehabilitation material. There was some specific exercises and guidance, but I was expecting / hoping for a detailed program - start to finish - for a holistic rehabilitation model.

The author does provide her contact information for more comprehensive and specific treatment, but that comes at an additional fee. Overall, I would rate the book as helpful.

5Inspirational  Jan 09, 2007
As someone suffering from Spasmodic Dysphonia, I find this book extremely beneficial and inspirational. It focuses healing on the person and not the dis-ease. I admire Connie Pike for her courage to buck the odds and the spiritual insight to thank God for giving her the gift of Spasmodic Dysphonia, the grace to handle it, and the passion to help others.

5VERY GOOD BOOK  Mar 13, 2006
I found this book very beenficial. I have SD and this book helped me looked online in places I wouldn't have thought of and the author seemed very down to earth like she cared about all who are affected. GET THIS BOOK!

5Good News for those with Spasmodic Dysphonia  Aug 01, 2005
I found this book easy to read and provides a very honest account of the condition known as spasmodic dysphonia. Its authored by a certified speech and language pathologist who herself had SD but was able, with a holistic (natural) approach to treatment, to largely overcome the condition. The book does not pretend that there is an easy fix, but gives those patients diagnosed with SD, HOPE of significant improvement without the need for drugs or surgery. The list of exercises provided as an appendix to the book, give a good summary of what is required to achieve a positive outcome for those willing to commit to a regular practise regime. The 'old view' that there is no hope (apart from drugs or surgery) is clearly out of date for those seeking a natural, longer-term improvement in their voice. A recommended read in my view.
