Another Recomendation Appreciated Mar 27, 2008

I read this book based on a recomendation from a girl at work and I am very pleased. This book is so well written from the first person perspective and honestly sends chills down my spine from how it could possibly be an accurate portrayal of America's future. For Michigan natives it is even better because all accounts of places visited and sights seen are completely accurate. I would and have recomended this book to all of my bookworm friends.

one of my all time fave books Oct 03, 2009
By Katherine E. Henkel i was born and raised in Michigan, and that used to be the only reason why i loved it. the weather is frusterating, and getting a job isnt that easy, but i still loved it. My ex bfs neighbor actually wrote this book, and thats how i came upon it. I was extreamly surprised at how well done and interesting this book was. I honestly didnt expect much, but ended up being blown away. The detail, the images it puts in your head are amazing. like another reviewer said, the events in this book arnt entierly impossible. i can truely see the events in this book happening in my life time. I may be from Michigan, but this book made me respect michigan more, and love it more. Ive actually gotten a tattoo on my left hand of where im from. Even if your not from Michigan, im sure youll find interest in this book. like i said, it is very well writen and it keeps your atention. A good book to have on your shelf forever.

Interesting idea... but that's about it. Oct 27, 2009
By Jerald Wuorenmaa I hate to crash the party here, but I was not impressed with this book. The story was pretty far fetched, and details to make it more believable were lacking. The plot was uneven. The tone wavered between that of a gung-ho killing squad and a more sentimental theme of the importance of family.
Worst of all, there were constant errors in grammar to the point of distraction. Many of these owed to lack of punctuation. I will give Mr. Davis the benefit of the doubt: This possibly could have been an intentional way to showcase the spartan nature of the story.
I do want to commend Mr. Davis for coming up with an original idea (and also for including Chuck Ragan lyrics). Having grown up in Michigan (the U.P.), I managed to stay involved enough in the story and its settings to make it through to the end. But it was not easy.

I read this book in 1 day. I couldn't put it down. Being from MI of course helped the book be more captivating, but all the events in the book are not something that is impossible. I thought it was a great read, and some of the detail made the book even more realistic.
I would suggest this book to anyone, Aric did a really nice job of keeping the reader captivated and on the edge of their seat for sure
