Highly recommended Dec 18, 2009
By Cynthia S. Finn As the daughter of one of the Easy Company veterans of course I was drawn to this book to add to my collection but it surpassed my expectations. Dalton has written a highly personal travel guide that goes way beyond pointing you in the direction of where to go if your curiosity leads you to Europe to see the famous battlefields and places Easy Company and other soldiers were during WWII. With his guidance on a recent trip to Europe following my own father's WWII footsteps, I was able to find out of the way places that had great meaning to my father and therefore, to me that I don't think I could have found on my own without this book. If you are a fan of Band of Brothers, this book will give you new insight into what the soldiers of Easy Company might have been feeling in specific locales. Dalton describes with great accuracy and sensitivity everything he saw and experienced in each place and makes you feel like you are there...or want to be there. WWII travel guides should see a boom in their business!

A "must have" for any Band of Brothers enthusiast Dec 22, 2009
By Mr. John E. Hopkins III Anyone contemplating visiting places associated with the "Band of Brothers" book and HBO mini-series should not even think about traveling without a copy of this supurb book in hand. Author Dalton Einhorn went through pains to ensure that his readers will find places of great significance they would likely otherwise miss -- all while putting them in historical context.
But "From Toccoa to the Eagle's Nest: Discoveries in the Bootsteps of the Band of Brothers" isn't just a travel guide; it's a personal journal of discovery told through the author's contemporary perspective, along with those of the veterans and their families with whom he spoke. "From Toccoa to the Eagle's Nest" also breaks important new ground with never-before-told stories of members of Easy Company. Until now, their names, stories and voices had not been heard.
Einhorn's book is different in many aspects from the others written about Easy Company. It's also compelling and essential for anyone with an appreciation for the Band of Brothers.

a fresh new concept in story telling Dec 20, 2009
By Russell Humphrey I once thought that all the good books about the BAND OF BROTHERS and NORMANDY had already been written. What else could be said after so many stories had been told? I then was alerted to the publication of a new book by Dalton Einhorn. It is called FROM TOCCOA TO THE EAGLES NEST; IN THE BOOTSTEPS OF THE BAND OF BROTHERS.
Dalton writes from the perspective of a man who admires and respects what the boys in Easy, and other units, did to help keep us all free. He was dedicated enough to literally go where the Easy boys went, relating interesting stories about each location. Some stories we have heard but many are new. The book is printed in an interesting "paragraph" mode that makes for a quick reading without the reader losing the story. Take it from a guy who has read just about every book on the subject, you will not be disappointed.

Space and Time Travel Jan 10, 2010
By C. Horoho This book provides readers both a travelogue and an historical account of the history made at each stop along the way! Mr. Einhorn takes you to the physical locations - in America, Great Britain, and Europe, and then paints a vivid mental picture of both the modern appearance and the events that occurred there. He then spices the read with stories of the men who created the history at each spot. One does not have to be a World War II Airborne enthusiast to enjoy this book. If you are a member of humanity - it is for you!
The evoulution of the author from Band of Brothers fan to all-inclusive World War II Veteran devotee is much appreciated by this reader!
Now a warning: If you are a WWII history fan - as am I - then this book may "awaken a sleeping giant, and fill him with a terrible resolve" to visit the locales covered! In that event, Mr. Einhorn provides invaluable information for the treks when you undertake them. Note to self: When visiting one of these hallowed places - pack From Toccoa to the Eagle's Nest first!

Unique Perspective on 101st Airborne Feb 05, 2010
By Paul Woodadge
"Battlefield Tour Guide and Historian"
I have all the existing books about the Band of Brothers veterans and dozens more on the 101st Airborne in WWII. So why would I need this book? Well quite simply it tackles the subject from a truly unique and very engaging viewpoint. The author plots his journey - both figuratively and literally from armchair Band of Brothers fan to European battlefield detective. His appreciation for the veterans and their sacrifices and his determination to discover the places they fought at form much of the book. Together with his incredible research beyond the standard stories into the veterans, their lives and careers.
All of this would be great, but what takes the author's book to another level is his own personality that shines through the text. A lot of history books are dry accounts, assembled by an editing team. Mr Einhorn's wit, honesty and humility breaks forth from the WWII facts and his perseverance through some travel trials and tribulations make it a smile a minute book from cover to cover.
I am a WWII Tour guide and have wriiten a lot of other WWII book reviews from another account. I buy many many books each year on WWII and as useful and interesting as they nearly all are, every now and then a particularly special book comes along. This is one of them, and I urge you all to give it a read.
