FunThink: 12 Tools for Creative Problem Solving

FunThink: 12 Tools for Creative Problem Solving is the first book that uses engaging hands-on activities to guide the educator/student through the problem solving process using 12 proven creativity tools. There are no special skills needed to be successful in the FunThink activities. They are designed to draw out innate creativity as well as spark original thought and creative problem solving. The activities are appropriate for ages 8 through adult. Through research in creativity development and drawing from my 35 years of experience in design and invention, I've concluded there is a great need for material that would help children and adults experience the creative process.

5FUNTHINK: It's a buy!  Apr 17, 2010
By Milana K. Bizic
Creativity lets you lead a more beautiful life.... you see things others don't "see" as readily. You can make quick changes and adapt more readily to crisis situations, you can "transfer" learning from one thing to another.

"The principle goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done - men who are creative, inventive and discoverers" (Jean Piaget)

So, it is always so great to "meet" creative people, if only through their books!

I received Ray Frigard's book and was quite impressed with his credentials as an inventor, sculptor, toy and game designer, and author. His FUN THINK: 12 Tools for Creative Problem Solving can be used by teachers, parents, group leaders (Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, Camp Counselors, etc.) alike to learn creativity skills and all the while, have fun doing it. Each activity page has 3 or 4 quotes on Creativity or the Human Imagination to start the creativity juices flowing, which make you feel you're having a fireside meeting or chat with some of the world's best thinkers before even starting your adventure!

Each activity accentuates one of the leading creativity processes: Brainstorming, Visual Thinking, Concept Sketching, Concept Modeling, Journaling, Mind Mapping, Collaboration, and Incubation.

Like a good cookbook, Ray lists the Material, Time, Objective, and Challenge for each activity, saving the teacher-leader lots of preparation time.

Some of you may know Ray from the the games he invented: "Camelot" and "Crossbows and Catapults". But Ray's talents and gifts go beyond those. He also worked with Disney and Garfield's creator as a clay sculptor.

One of my favorite Buckminster Fuller quotes describes Ray's book as it unfolds. "There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you that it's going to be a butterfly." For all those that like flying instead of crawling.... its a buy!

I immediately shared the knowledge found in Ray's book with several of my younger colleagues.....

5A must have for educators.  Oct 28, 2008
By Peter Wocken "PandaWear"
This book is a must have for educators. It is well written and designed, with fun and challenging projects/lesson plans for students of any age. If you are a home school teacher in search of new creative projects, you can bring this book into any lesson plan. There are 13 different activities that will help foster a sense exploration and exciting discoveries. I think that this book would also be a good solution for schools that continue to see their art curriculum and budgets slashed. FunThink is quite cheap and so are the recommended materials used in the various projects. Treat and challenge your student to "think outside the box," you'll be amazed at what they discover.

5Fun Think review  Oct 24, 2008
By Alva Hakala
This is a great book to help teachers and parents foster the inventiveness of our youth. Finding people who can think for themselves and truly problem solve is getting to be a rare commodity for employers and educators. This reminds me of the old Think and Do of my youth, but in a different format. Thanks, Ray Frigard!
