Gay Erotic Short Stories Back in Print! Sep 02, 2008 Perhaps some readers out there may recall a series of short erotic fiction stories written back in the early/mid 1980s by Fred Bisonnes (using several synonyms) that were published in the gay magazines of the time, including Advocate MEN for which Bisonnes first served as art director and later as staff photographer. Twelve of these short stories along with a newly written novella are now thankfully back in print in a new softcover edition with the title of the first one, "Gemini In Manzanillo."
I was unfamilar with the stories, but a friend recommended the anthology and it is well worth the modest price! As I read them, I was somewhat reminded of the gay fiction of the 1960s (the "Loon Triology" comes to mind if any of you remember that series and others of the time!). I cannot honestly say I equally enjoyed all twelve of the pieces...a couple of them, in fact, left me a bit "queasy."
The most enjoyable story, however, is the aforementioned novella, titled "The Roman Fling of Mr. Stone," an absolutely delightful twist on Tennessee Williams's 1950 short story, "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone," later made into a 1961 movie starring Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty and then again as a 2004 Showtime TV special with Helen Mirren and Olivier Martinez. If you've ever been in Rome (or even if you haven't) I think you will thoroughly enjoy this "take" on the Williams tale, albeit you may be a tad frustrated by the "ending" which more or less uses his gimmick. Do order this new anthology posthaste. You won't be sorry and I know you'll love the colorful erotic cover also!
