Great Resource for those in Transition Oct 08, 2009 Jim has vast experience in this topic and is sharing his expertise through his new book. I found it to be an easy read with a proven process flowchart and useful templates included. Highly recommend Jim's book for anyone in job or career transition.
Great Career Transition Resource Sep 29, 2009 Jim's information is clear, concise, and interestingly written. If you're stuck for questions to ask on an informational interview, Jim has those. Not sure how to answer behavioral interview questions? Review that chapter right before an interview! Looking for letter templates? Jim includes those as well. This is your 1-stop place for career transition info! Thanks, Jim.
If I could only choose one job book- Get the Job is it Sep 14, 2009 I would like to recommend Jim Grant Book "Get the Job (and Compensation)you want" to meet your job search needs. Jim's advice in the book is targeted to deal with the job hunt process.
"Get the Job (and Compensation) you want" provides down to earth advice and common sense about the entire `process'. If you could only use one book in your job seeking process, I would recommend his book. What helped me the most was Jim's insights into `Behavioral' interview questions. Jim's insight are from someone who has been there and done that.
A "Must Have" for Every Job Seeker! Jul 26, 2009 If you haven't searched for a new job in the last few years, know this...the rules have changed! Jim Grant's book tells you what the new rules are and gives you concrete instructions on how to make them work for you. If you're engaged in a job search, you can't afford to waste time using outdated methods to find a job in this economic climate. Get this book and do it right the first time!
Networking, networking, networking - process! Jun 03, 2009 Having personally changed employers numerous times previously, I must say that I WISH I had the information in this book to use earlier in my career. It would have DEFINITELY shortened up my search time and increased my effectiveness, especially in a time/place where scarce opportunities + tough competition = high unemployment.
This book offers both words and actions that can be applied immediately to most every aspect of a job search. It's a well-organized and encouraging read, with in-depth sections that will be referenced time and again as the reader advances through different stages of the hiring process - the section on negotiating compensation is worth the price of the book alone! There's an overriding theme of 'tough love' ("stop cleaning the garage and go out to an industry seminar") and pitfalls to avoid are uncovered (a recruiter who asks where you've been interviewing).
The book is organized using a variety of alert buttons - DO - SAY - OPTIONS - CONCEPT - IDEA - EXAMPLE - CAUTION - that draw the reader's attention to specific material and how it is presented. Filled with an abundance of practical and usable information, this book needs to be in the hands (not on the shelf) of active job seekers. Jim Grant has poured his heart and soul into a work that reflects his caring attitude and experience counseling others through these life- and family-impacting transitions.
