Julie Weary's "Getting Out of Dodge" is a funny, wry look at love and friendship. In just a few days, all the beliefs in narrator Sally Rand's life are upended. The ways author Weary has her cope with the changes are sometimes hilarious and sometimes poignant, but never dull. Weary's gift for wordplay makes each page dance and many of her descriptions, of people and Sally's reactions to them, are a riot. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who appreciates well-crafted writing and a strong story.

Written with wit and wisdom, this is a surprising love story among quirky appealing characters ...

I remember Janet Fitch, author of the brilliant White Oleander, saying in an interview, 'Trite is anything that's ever been said before.' Nothing in Julie Weary's vocabulary is trite; every page of Getting Out of Dodge is filled with clever and amusing and drag-me-to-the-next-page sentences."
