2Powell Gets His Slice  Sep 03, 2002

A fairly well written but poorly edited book, especially considering its price. The title, Getting Your Slice, is unjust. Mr. Powell worked for a large national francise which is really quite different from YOU or I getting OUR slice of the pizza business. The book does give some very general information on the business (and ends with a bunch of statistics), but does not really deliver any solid advice or make any recommendations for starting a pizza business of your own.

4"informative and interesting--a little rushed"  Mar 10, 2003
By David G. Stokes
Let me start by saying I enjoyed reading this book a great deal. A lot of information concerning mixers, ovens, and other topics were covered. Too much repetition, as well as too much focus on statistics of the big companies was a downer. As a pizza affectionado and person looking into the pizza business I would have liked a little more advise for beginners. I got the same vibes as the reviewer from illinois, the author could have done a better job. All in all, this is a great introductory book. I think Tracy Powell should re-write this book from a whole different point of view: From the conception of a small pizza shop to the grand opening/first $1.00. I guess some of us are either dumber or more afraid of taking the plunge into entrepreneurship. Sometimes it just takes a little push!

5What we needed!  Sep 08, 2002

A lot of information for starting a pizza parlor for me and my wife. There's more in Powell's book than we could get anywhere else dealing with pizza or even a restaurant wanting to start serving pizza. Highly recommended.

5Excellent resource, entertaining read!  Mar 12, 2002
By Ian Fitzpatrick
I got just what I needed from this book, and more! We weren't sure about opening a new pizzeria in town, but now it's decided and we feel better armed with the latest information and what we're in for. The author writes from inside the industry, with interesting stories anyone will enjoy. Truly unique--it's a one of a kind type of book.

5Excellent resource!  Sep 11, 2003
By Shannon Diangelo
This was exactly what we were looking for in our search for more information on the Pizza and Italian restaurant business. This was for research first, and we hope to put Mr. Powell's advice and experience to use one day soon. No other books out there like it. Well written and researched.
