Transformative Oct 05, 2009
By Lynn F. Will Once in a while a book comes along that demands to be read not only with the head, but must truly be experienced with the heart. Gift of the Jaguar guides us on the path to remembering who we truly are. This evocative novel weaves the weft and warp of Andean life in the Peruvian mountains, enveloping us in a tapestry of colors, sights, sounds, and emotions. We are pulled further and further into Juan del Gato's dangerous journey of initiation and redemption, exposing us to the pain of loss and the discovery of the divine in this experiential page turning narrative. During his terrifying and beautiful journey Juan sheds his old limitations of guilt and fear over the mysterious death of his beloved sister, and we are invited to share his ecstatic vision of love and connection with himself, creation, and the Source of All that Is. In this mystical parable we discover that dreams are not frivolous luxuries to be put away at the end of childhood but the very food that feeds the soul and allows us to step into the life we are created to live. This inspiring and uplifting book is a wonderful catalyst for gaining a broader perspective of our selves and our relationship to the world around us.

Powerful and transformative Feb 07, 2010
By B. Harrelson Gift of the Jaguar is an authentic introduction to learning to experience the world (and life itself) as energy and not simply as form. From human bone to the lightest feather of a hummingbird, every molecule of the vibrant landscape of Gift of the Jaguar crackles with energy at the edge of creation.
Gift of the Jaguar is important because it is not theoretical or abstract musings. Firmly grounded in the Andean mystical teachings of Don Theo Paredes, the authors reveal, through detail and insight, that this book is as much a journal of their own spiritual awakening as a story of a young man's journey of initiation as a healer in the mountains of Peru.
To read Gift of the Jaguar with an open heart will open the gateway to deep truths.
Most people I know who are interested in the shamanic journey are well read in this area. Gift of the Jaguar is an important addition to that body of knowledge.

A Moving Spiritual Journey Oct 19, 2009
By Ginger K. Sebastian It was difficult to put this book down. The story, the descriptions, the words..I was right there. I could hear the tinkling of the bells on the llama's ears, smell the smoke-filled adobe homes, see the beautiful, blue lagoon at the base of Ausungate, taste the plant medicine and picture a very old, wrinkled medicine man! As someone who's been to Peru a number of times on spiritual journeys, I felt this book captured in words the experiences of working in this powerful place and the transformations that occur. I tell people that when you're in the energy of Peru, it resonates with us in a way that opens us to source, to becoming all we are meant to be, and that we return home as transformers of this energy to those we interact with. For me it has been difficult to capture the experience in words - but John and Sharon are very talented writers and storytellers and this book will help others on their journey of self-realization.

Gratitude to John Aug 10, 2011
By Ravenbear After getting to know John Franklin for 4 years in our Feldenkrais Training Program in Santa Fe as a compassionate, mature man, really a rare thing to find nowadays, I was doubly surprised to find him an accomplished writer and so knowledgable about indigenous people and their ancient practices. He brings these unique patterns of ritual into modern consciousness with adroitness and care.
Having spent 15 years in Alaska with part of that time in deep wilderness, I really appreciated John's research and knowledge which allowed him to impart ancient wisdoms to all of us. Thank you John!
