Medical Drama and Humor! Oct 12, 2008
By Sue
"GatorSue"
The first-time author has a remarkable way of weaving the seriousness of a doctor's training with the humor found in many life or death situations. I found the book entertaining and myself laughing out loud! It is hard to put down and leaves the reader wishing for more when the final page is turned. I think anyone who reads it will come away with both a "healthy" respect for the medical profession and a yearning to know what lies ahead for Dr. Mark Telfair and his lovely wife-nurse as their professional and personal lives continue!
Entertaining, masterfully told stories of medical training! Aug 27, 2010
By Robert P. Lange Dr. Traer's masterfully written stories transform the reader into those final medical training years of intern and residency life in a way that is both educational and highly entertaining. `Going To The Gradies' follows the growth of a fresh out of medical school physician as he deals with the practical realities of the practice of medicine, showing the amazing array of situations physicians face in an inter-city southern hospital that most of us have absolutely no clue about. The decision making and creativity that takes place in that environment is much more amusing than I ever would have guessed.
Taking place in the 60's, `Going To The Gradies' is a fictional story based on real-life events and deals not only with the medical challenges facing the young Dr. Telfair, but with civil rights issues of the time as well. Throw in romance with a lovely nurse and you have a lively and entertaining book.
Intern training and residency humor Feb 01, 2010
By Lawson Broadrick I thourghly enjoyed the doctors intern and residency training. It has every thing, humor, romance, how things were back then and a very easy read.
Hilarious humor preserves South's language heritage Jul 01, 2009
By Leon E. Curry Dr. Mark Telfair's hilarious adventures and misadventures made me laugh all the way thru this exciting book. The author honestly preserves the heritage of the original rich and beautiful language of the South, and pointedly disregards "political correctness". Laughter is the best of all medicines, with no side effects. This big dose of humor should keep us healthy for a long time.
