Grand Hotel

The thematic of the twelve short stories, published in the collection Grand Hotel, by María del Carmen Artigas, is the present day condition of Latin American women. Each story analyzes a woman in a different stage of life. The author deals with a variety of topics, such as: the turbulent emotions of adolescence, rejection of love, marriage, trapping social situations, unwanted pregnancy, adultery, working class girls forced into prostitution for lack of food. These situations do not escape the vision of the author, the delicate sentiments of a woman’s soul, nor the women’s desire to develop themselves as a whole persona regardless of social barriers.
