Grandpa Showed Me How to Make a Fort

When Mom and Grandma go shopping, it’s Grandpa’s job to stay with Maddie and keep her out of trouble. Although he tends to tell jokes that aren’t funny, he, Maddie, and Maddie’s dog Lukie enjoy their time together. One day, while casting about for something fun to do, Grandpa suggests they build a fort. By emptying the linen closet and rearranging the furniture, they build a fantastic fort in the living room—which Maddie’s mom promptly orders to be taken down when she returns home! Fortunately for Maddie, Grandpa has a plan to build a fort they’ll never have to take apart, right in his own backyard. Told from the point of view of energetic ten-year-old Maddie, Grandpa Showed Me How to Make a Fort offers a whimsical look at how the simplest of projects can become a tender, treasured memory to be shared between a granddaughter and grandfather.

5A Wonderful Childrens Book  Sep 20, 2008
By Renee Eowadia "PTA"
Not only did my daughter enjoy this book, but I did as well. Truly a fun story, not anything improper or negative to worry about, just a good solid funny story that shows how much fun you can have interacting with a grandchild by using a little imagination. The art is very well done and rather unique. I've never seen it or the story line used before. The story has humor for the adult as well as for the kids, and reading this with your child is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I highly recommend it !

I thought the pictures were really cool. How he took his images and made them into his book. I also liked the story. How neat to make a book with your grandfather.

A great read for children & older family members as well. I thoroughly recommend this book to everyone. The author has an obvious eye for detail in art & writing. The illustrations are unique and a good fit. The story flows in a sort of harmonious melody with splashes of humor at every turn. This book has it all: Humor, art, constructive activities, & family bonding.
