Harmonious Day aka the Power Bar of Inspirational Writing Feb 27, 2008

As a fan of Reverend Speights weekly online column, "All Paths" ([...]) I was eager to read his book Harmonious Day. The All Paths columns, under-girded by a subtle spiritual wisdom, are concise relevant commentaries that run the gamut from social to political. Harmonious Day is just as relevant and concise; a nifty compact guide to a happier, more peaceful and balanced life. Equal parts inspirational, instructional and spiritual, it dispenses practical advice and provides accessible meditations and exercises grounded in the teachings of several disciplines. As in his columns, Speights writes with a fresh, conversational voice that is confident and sometimes humorous. I loved the way this book distilled so much into a powerful nugget that will be appreciated both by novice seekers and those who already have established spiritual and lifestyle practices.
An ideal workbook for the spirit Mar 25, 2008

'Rev. Jay Speights has written an excellent guide to living every day in the present. It sounds easy but it isn't. We all spend most of our time casting our minds forward in the hope of better times or looking back on what we have lost, and in the process we lose the perfect moment that we are in right now. Speights provides useful exercises and meditations for keeping us in the here and now and for enjoying a "harmonious day" - for eliminating discordant notes, learning to be still, and dealing with people whose own demons can derail own "spiritual capital improvement project." Easier to say than to live - as Speights himself admits - but definitely worth aspiring to. Harmonious Day is the ideal workbook for the spirit - well-written, clear and to the point - a source to be returned to again and again in the long and difficult process of "reaching your highest perfection."
