A fine example Feb 19, 2009
By Terry W. Gill Just as roses survive and flourish between thorns, Hayden and his siblings have become great people and examples as a result of their ability to be better than there Parental heritage. Thanks for a great story!!!!

When's the sequel coming ? Jan 15, 2009
By Eve What a charming tale of self discovery. Even as a "city slicker", I found myself envying Mr. Hedrick's comedic, summer journey, in Montana. Toward the end of this book, (a very quick, fun read), I read ONLY one chapter at a day. I didn't want it to end. I laughed out loud at many of his predicaments, and I truly hope he writes a sequel, Hayfever II !!!!!!

Hayfever by Haydn Hedrick Nov 30, 2008
By Anne The author was a stringbean kid who couldn't even open the irrigation ditch gate by himself on his uncle's farm in Montana. Besides severe hayfever he had a "lazy eye" and was expected to fail at everything that summer.
But he did not fail.
He befriended the Indians, befriended his uncle's partner, even befriended the neighborhood girl who beat him at wrestling.
The story is told without sentiment or self pity, and includes a lot of self-effacing humor.
It is a fast read--too fast. At the end I found myself wanting more, so I sat down and reread the whole book.
I'm sure that Mr. Hedrick has ably handled any adversities life may have handed him as he did that summer: with canny wit, craftiness and heart.
Great Short Story! Feb 24, 2009
By S. R. Brooks Wonderful book about a young man and the trials and tribulations of spending a summer with people who are not very likeable. I cried and I laugh for Haydn and all of the pitfalls of being at a place where he didn't really want to be doing what he really didn't want to do and yet making the best of it. The book is easy to read and not easy to put down. He did his Mum proud.
