Heeling the Boys' Club

Heeling the Boys' Club by Tina Melanson is the moving, funny story of Dr. Shelby Rose, who transitions from a naive farm-bred woman to a hard-working physician, all the while fighting the male chauvinism that is rampant in her profession. While at first she accepts the occasional disrespect, she soon begins to realize there is a virtual Boys' Club in medicine and fitting in has its price. Shelby soon finds herself turning from a friendly, optimistic woman to a sarcastic, disgruntled physician. Can she find her way back to herself without sacrificing a position in the Club? Kidney specialist Tina Melanson's personal experiences give Heeling the Boys' Club a stunning authenticity that is reminiscent of Marilyn French's The Women's Room. This is a terrific book for any woman who has ever felt marginalized in her job and wondered what to do about it

4Professionalism at its best  Nov 10, 2009
By Kathy Gisi
Excellent book. Did not realize in todays world that women still have to go the extra miles to prove themself. Not to just their peers but their patients too. How sad is that? Loved the book and highly reccommend it.

5A must read for all women and men who dare to...  Nov 30, 2009
By Shawn Myhre
Absolutely hilarious reading that captivated my attention to the very end... laughed 'til I peed myself! No pun intended. Every woman will be able to relate to some aspect of Dr Shelby Rose's life. A victory for women! Men, read at your own risk... you may learn something about women, professionalism, friendships, family and yourselves.

5A great read for all women  Nov 26, 2009
By Ellen Wellington
I just finished this book and I recommended it to my daughter. I clicked with the main character right away and enjoyed the book thoroughly. It shows how much women can do when they put their minds to it! Thanks Tina Melanson!

5HYSTERICAL!!!  Oct 28, 2010
By Kelly Patterson "Kelly from Salem"
Step aside Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich series). Make way Sophie Katz (Krya Davis series). The endearing Dr. Shelby Rose is now on duty. Whether she is dealing with the Boys' Club, unruly patients, uncooperative household appliances or UFOs (laughed out loud at that!!!), she will win your heart. This book is just wonderful and is a must read! It is quirky, fun, interesting, thought provoking and just full of belly laughs!! I highly recommend this book. I hope the writer is working on #2 because I cannot wait to read more about Dr. Rose's adventures!!!!

5Wonderful read!  Jan 29, 2010
By Fan of Reading "Eva"
I received this book from my daughter who is a nurse and actually knows the author. It is absolutely a wonderful book, very well written and easy to read. Plus it is hilarious reading even though it is sad that women in healthcare are treated so poorly in today's environment. I am a veteran of more than 30 years in healthcare and have seen many improvements but yes, there is definitely a 'good old boys club' alive and well yet today. I loved her characters and could envision them easily while reading the book. I recommend it to all women interested in trying to rise above the restraints placed on them by the "GOOD OLD BOYS!"
