Hot on the Range

Easygoing savoir-faire, this lighthearted romp at a Texas ranch is fun, charming and filled with the adventures of an irrepressible young horse named Chester. Perfect for pre- and beginning readers, Hot on the Range is written by new author R.D. Jentsch and illustrated by David C. Bryant. The tale begins with two horses seeking shelter from the sweltering Texas sun. Willie, a laid back palomino ambles over to a shady spot under a tree, while Chester a paint horse, looks under rocks and every other corner of the pasture to find relief. From rolling in the mud to smelling cactus flowers, it will be Chester’s own master who will save the day with a cool stream of icy water from the outdoor spigot. Recommended for an award in children’s literary fiction, this book is loosely based on the behavior of two real horses and proves to be a whole lot of summer fun for the whole family.

By Carrie B. Mcmillan "Mclemonnotlime"
This book is definitely a keeper. My little boy has asked for it to be read to him over and over. He really enjoyed it. It reminds him of his own horse! I would recommend it for little boys or girls! Super cute!

5Great story and lovable illustrations  Aug 23, 2009
By Bing Icefairy
I enjoyed reading this book with my child. The story is captivating and humorous. It shows us that horses have different personalities too. It's an educational book even for adults. I highly recommend it.

3Teaches Problem-Solving  Aug 12, 2009
By Denise Mestanza Taylor "Denise of Run DMT"
With a story revolving around horses, my girls were immediately drawn to this book and the beautiful water color illustrations held their attention. As a former educator, I appreciated its simple lesson on problem solving and trial-and-error. This book would make a wonderful addition to any guidance unit.

5Chester reminds me of my daugthers  Aug 03, 2009
By Christine Fernandez - The IE Mommy

Hot on the Range is one of the most adorable childrens' books that I have read lately. My twins absolutely adore horses and have asked me to read this book over and over again. I chuckle every time I read of Chester's antics. He reminds me a lot of my girls. Always having to do things "their" way and then eventually realizing my way was better.

Chester has a few run-in with animals and objects that leave him a less then happy horse. Eventually his master shows kindness and love. This little horse finally receives the attention and peace that he was seeking.

While Hot on the Range is a kid's book it definitely spoke to the kid in my heart. Beautiful illustrations from David C. Bryant highlight the story and the adventure of Chester, the paint horse. Hot on the Range
