Hounded Feb 03, 2010 I had the particular pleasure of meeting Truman Mahoney back in 1975 and was as impressed by the man as I was by his story, which has been richly retold in this book. I was a college student doing research on criminals from the Depression era and he happened to be attending my then-father in law's church in Vidor, Texas. Those interview tapes have long ago vanished but I remember being moved by his gentle nature and faith, to the point that I hoped that someone would someday put down his story in print. I was so glad to see that someone had.
I highly recommend Mr. Neal's book and its message, hoping that it will both entertain and lend some insight into the life of a man who was tried by fire and redeemed.
I am not an avid reader, but this book called to me everytime i took a break. Jan 30, 2010 This was one of the most interesting books I have read in a very long time. I do not find much time to devote to relaxing with any book, but since it has been placed in my hands, I have enjoyed the ease of reading and the content of each and every letter written within its cover. A story well told full of mishaps and misconduct and tragedy, along with the satisfaction of getting away with criminal behavior, or so you think?...How truly God never gives up. I recommend this to anyone wanting to see how it really was back then, and get to know the main characters and the life they led.

Thank you! Jan 17, 2010 This book was ideed a "page turner." I found my heart beating a little faster at times when the victim(s) were in danger be it the good man or bad! I learned things such as a look inside Alcatraz and the real story of the bird man...WOE--!
The telling of history also resonated with me concerning Model T Fords and no indoor plumbing and other things. I had seen old movies in earlier years of bank robbers and so I could picture the events as I read. But this was the real thing!
The writer has revealed some of history which has never been told publicly. And he has made a difference in the healing of one man's wounded heart. He listened and valadated the man's worth in his and God's eyes. I suspect the writer had more to do with leading this man to the Lord's plan for his life which we could hear more about but for Mr Neal's modesty.
After I closed the book, I found myself wishing I could have sat with Mr. Mahoney and heard his story first hand.
Thank you, Mr. Neal for a good read for which I lost sleep, not wanting to put it down and go to bed!

Adventures of Truman and Harry Sep 08, 2009 I love an inspirational story and Hounded, Truman's Story shines as to how the planting of a mustard seed can grow in someone's soul. This biography of Truman Mahoney and his brother Harry recounts their lives as complete devotees to lawlessness, violence, and mayhem. It's interesting to note that these men's father was a Methodist minister and possible the divine seed was planted in Truman at a very young age.
Clifford's detailed accounts of these men's careers in bank robberies and the years incarceration in Angola Prison in Louisiana and Alcatraz made me appreciate even more why I chose to walk on the right side of the law. Truman's talk with God while in a life and death situation in Alcatraz vividly illustrates that some may have to be flat on their backs before following the path of righteousness.
Truman's and Harry's Adventures trying to recover the stolen loot from the past reminds me of a Three Stooges movie. With such a comedy of errors, one might ask why these men didn't think about going to work. It might have been safer and more profitable.
Clifford's long career in the ministry clearly shows through with his compassion for his friend Kenny. He tells the story via a series of e-mails to Kenny.
If you like an adventuresome, entertaining, and inspiring read then this is your book. Thanks Clifford! I think this would make a great television mini-series.
HOUNDED Aug 06, 2009 First of all, I was not prepared to enjoy this book. However, I was taken in by the unique approach by the author to tell the story in a series of letters to a friend.
HOUNDED is a fascinating biography of a man whose seeds for a perennial garden of crime were planted at an early age when he was "dismissed" by his parents, leaving him the task of sorting out his uncertain future. His love for an older brother further conflicted with his deeply seeded sense of right and wrong, causing him to choose the path that lead him into a life of crime that most of us only read about in novels.
While reading this book, my thoughts returned to Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt where all through the book I was thinking, "Is anything good ever going to happen to this character?" HOUNDED is such a book. It draws you in and doesn't release you until it has had its say. It also leaves you with a better understasnding of the importance of a stable childhood and how strong influences, even by those we love, can lead a person through a life of seemingly unredeemable actions.
HOUNDED reminds us that there is hope for redemption even for the most guilty among us. The author has written with such sensitivity and love that you will not soon forget Truman Mahoney, a man who only by the grace of God could be redeemed. This is a well-written biography we can all learn from, and my compliments to the author who must have found it a monumental task to bring the story together in such a unique and exciting way.
You won't regret buying this book.
