How To Disappear Completely

In his first collection of stories, Troy Nethercott explores life in Los Angeles, the humor and tragedy in the lives of ordinary people. He draws portraits of men and women fighting their inner demons; people whose lives fall apart or who bravely pick up the pieces afterwards. Artists and studio executives, businessmen and bohemians, actors, writers, housewives and a homeless ex-boxer are observed with ruthless precision, but always with a generosity of spirit.

4Great Read  Apr 05, 2009
By Tracey Z
These stories were short but packed a lot of thoughtful twists and turns and interesting characters into them. I couldn't stop reading and polished it off in a day just because I kept wanting to see what else Nethercott would come up with. That EYE will stay with me for a long time...

5LA Stories with Heart  Nov 13, 2008
By Mack Typer "Mac"
This collection is surprisingly good in more ways than one. First, the pieces are an excellent study in story structure. I've often heard that screenplay writers are the best at structure, and that seems to be the case here. Each piece is gripping and elegantly organized. There are few slow moments or digressions that waste time and take away from the main plot. Second, this book goes beyond typical LA cliches because many of the characters show a great deal of heart and complexity. Some of them remind me what love feels like. Some of them break my heart. The title story is great. I also liked Serious Misfortune and A Day In The Life of Martin Wilson.
