I Have Not Picked Up My Dinosaurs Yet Today

I Have Not Picked Up My Dinosaurs Yet Today” is a depiction of what it is like to live with anxiety/ depression disorder. It is unlike a lot of other non-fiction writing in that the book is a series of dramatic readings based on the true experiences of people who have suffered from this devastating disease. The book can be consumed as standard reading material but is designed to be read aloud in order to convey the emotional impact of its dramatic entries. The readers and/or audiences for a performance can be made up of mental health professionals and the general public. The book was written to be educational but also to engage people in the deeply moving experiences of those with this tragic illness.

5Giving voice  May 16, 2009
By Daniela V. Petkova "Dani"
I have read this slim yet powerful volume and also have seen it performed as a dramatic reading by the author and other actors. It is touching, moving and shows the depth of despair people struggling with depression can reach. It addresses various aspects of life that can be devastated as a result of the disease, such as motherhood, family, the workplace, and one's position within society. It also reflects on the role of mental health caregivers and the drugs they prescribe, among other themes. Helene Meyer has given voice to her own experiences with depression in a way that may reach others who struggle or have friends or family that do. I recommend it very highly.
