I Know You by Heart

“I Know You by Heart” takes an extended family through the death of its matriarch and then through the formalities of the mourning period. Readers, no doubt, know from experience, that no mourning period for anyone, or any family is like any other. All members of the Fielding family have unfinished business, hidden scandals, fearful secrets that create unwitting behavior. Each character provides harsh, but horribly true information, revealed for the first time. In “I Know You by Heart,” all of these elements float about uncontrolled, and the family runs amok. The characters in “I Know You by Heart,” expect their reasonably responsible family members to behave in traditional ways, but the truth is, the Fielding family faces this crisis in the most irrational ways possible. From moments before the funeral, until after the formal grieving process is over, they begrudge, punish and some even learn to love again, over time.

5Love Burns Forever  Dec 31, 2009
By K. A. Peterson
A long-held love that is slowly revealed in the last days of a woman's life forms the center of this novel about life's bittersweet mix of regret and joy. As the main character lays dying, her family discovers love letters that show a secret side of her that they did not suspect. This slow reveal of a secret life love in the everyday doings of a middle aged mother, and her still burning fire of longing for a love that went bad, is riveting reading. Nicely paced with good characters.

5Linda Spear invites us in  May 08, 2010
By Mara Buck "Mara Buck"
Just finished reading I KNOW YOU BY HEART, a new novel by Linda Spear: The perfect gift for Mother's Day. A story for sharing. A family drama of immediacy and honest reporting. A book for all of us who have loved and lost and loved again. Linda Spear has that `kitchen table' touch --- we are having coffee with her and she makes us keep asking, "And then what happened?" Tissues are not optional ...

Told in the first person through the eyes of Sarah, one of two daughters, the story reads with the emotion and personality of memoir. We examine each of the other characters through Sarah's pain and essential good nature. We root for these fundamentally decent people as their hopes and fears become ours. That engaging sincerity is Linda Spear's gift to us in this debut. She involves us and keeps serving us that coffee. And what a fine brew it is!

5How Well Do We Really Know Each Other  Jan 29, 2010
By Michelle Daly
It's bad enough losing your mother but finding out about her 'other' life when she is barely cold is a double tragedy. That's what happened to Sarah when her mother Andrea, died, whispering the name David, with her last breath. Unable to move on until the mystery is solved, Sarah determines to find out. But it's how she deals with this staggering revelation that makes compelling reading.

Who was David and why was he so important to her mother? You'll find all the answers in, 'I Know You By Heart.'

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to people from all walks of life.

It certainly gives one food for thought and begs the question, How well do we really know our parents?

4I know you by heart  Dec 23, 2009
By Belka
Touching, close to home; reading that is familiar to many of us who have lost a loved one; each going through the mourning which for some goes on and on. A roller coaster of life. Well written story and I found it hard to put the book down.

4Enjoyed it from cover to cover  Jun 27, 2011
By Misha C.
Amidst a tragedy, one woman unravels a mystery about her mother. In doing so, she uncovers truths about her entire family - including some things she wishes she didn't know. This book is a mystery, love story and family saga all in one. I enjoyed it from cover to cover.
