I Should'Ve Said Something

Whatever he is known by, whether it is Butch, Dave, or Doc, his family, friends, clients, and colleagues have a tremendous amount of love and respect for him. A good sense of humor throughout his life has made him enjoyable to be around. He has never cared to be in large groups, but his one-on-one relationships have been pleasant, interesting, and educational. Coming from a humble background, he has developed good values such as hard work, dependability, and setting goals. It was always hard for him to charge high prices for his work. Some years, he did over 80 C-sections during calving season resulting in little rest. One day he went to work at the local sale barn at 7 AM. He worked all day, all night, and didn’t leave until noon the next day when he had bangs vaccinating scheduled for 1 PM. The life of a veterinarian is very demanding. He enjoyed going to the ranches to work all day and relished the meals the ranch wives would prepare. When he went to work for the USDA, his clients missed him. Now that he is retired there are few demands on his time schedule. He enjoys working in the yard, gardening, reading, watching TV, working at the computer, and exercising. He especially likes the sports of football and boxing. It was always a treat for his kids to get to go on calls with their dad. His son, David, is now a college rodeo coach. His daughter, Dayna, is a loan officer and assistant vice president at a bank. His wife, Dorothy, enjoys getting to “hang out together” since his retirement.

5KUDOS to Dr. Browder for saying something good  May 19, 2006
By Ralph C. Richardson DVM
I got home about 8:00 p.m. the evening that I received my copy of this book in the mail. I started reading it and couldn't lay it down until I had read the whole thing. Dr. Browder writes in a way that draws the reader in and makes the events of his life very real. It is heartwarming and, much like the James Herriot books, makes the reader fall in love with the animals, people and events that surround a veterinarian's life. I wish I would have met some of the characters he tells about. They are the sort of people who make others better. As Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University (Dr. Browder's alma mater) I have made sure that his book has been added to our library's collection.

5The Best Veterinarian Book Since Herriot!!  May 30, 2006
By Dr. D.L. Smith
This is a great book for those of us in the Animal Industry as well as those people who just love animals and the Western "way of life." As the Animal Scientist for Eastern New Mexico University I especially appreciated the trials and tribulations of large animal work. In addition, I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Browder for recognizing and giving credit to those around him who have contributed to his success. It is truly an educational and inspirational work. In the end, I am glad Dr. Browder "Said Something." A must read!!
